Jamie Lee wants to be normal. But his ADHD makes him feel like his brain is full of butterflies. Elin Watts wants to be perfect. If she can be, surely her dad will come home. When Jamie and Elin's families blend, the polar opposites of chaotic Jamie and ordered Elin collide. As their lives spiral out of control, Jamie and Elin discover that they're actually more alike than they'd admit. Maybe there's no such thing as normal, or perfect. And perhaps, just like families, happy-ever-afters come in all shapes and sizes. Uplifting and moving, The Boy with the Butterfly Mind is an inspiring story of acceptance, blended families, and discovering that in the end, being yourself is more than enough. Ten stars!
Words cannot express how special this book is to me. It was recommended by my son's P7 teacher. He's something of a reluctant reader and has been struggling a bit this year. He's staying with his Dad this week so we have read the book together via video call. We started it three nights ago. Last night, my son couldn't put it down so read ahead on his own till goodness knows what time and today he finished it. I've just played catch up and it's safe to say we both thoroughly enjoyed it. He would like to give it ten stars and I'm inclined to agree! Victoria Williamson writes beautifully for a young market. Themes include blended families, bullying, ADHD, acceptance and letting go of anger. There are some truly invaluable lessons wrapped up in a really accessible and enjoyable story. We highly recommend this book!

Compelling .
Brilliant and powerful story. It explores the complications, highs and lows of fragmented and blended families and of children growing up trying to make sense of these huge changes Both Jamie and Elin's stories feel real, relevant and engage the reader completely. The dual narrative style gives the reader the ability to have huge empathy with both characters even as they lock horns with each other . Jamie's story really opens the reader's eyes to the emotional strain that children with ADHD must be under and is an excellent representation of the way in which their actions can be misconstrued. Elin's story too, of the desire to be perfect in every way ,was equally as moving and compelling to read . This is not only an excellent and enjoyable book but also a very meaningful one that I think a great deal of it's young readers will find the comfort of seeing themselves reflected in.
