Review: 10 little envelopes, all containing seeds. - I have seen others comment that some of the seed envelopes contained no seeds, and while I'm not saying they're wrong, I would say that some of the seeds are absolutely tiny and there was twice that I thought I had nothing in the envelope only to find them hiding in the corners. They're not just small. They are TINY. In terms of how many seeds are in each envelope, I actually counted the 1st envelope, (there were 47 coriander seeds), and I had planned on counting all the seeds in each envelope, but they were just too small and I wasn't capable of counting them with the light I had on. I possibly would have been able in bright natural light, but it just wasn't worth it. 40-50 seeds in each envelope doesn't seem an unreasonable guess. I've no idea if these seeds will germinate, but I've sown 4-5 seeds of 1 type of seed into a propagator.... slot/compartment/whatever and I will report back as and when I see some action. I'm a complete novice gardener, so if I can get these to grow then it should be simple for the rest of you. I thought the idea of using the propagator was a good one, (not using lights), but some of the seeds were so small that I really had no idea where they went exactly, other than in the general area that I was trying to place them in. Where my propagator plan falls down is that where as 1 seed might give me 1 parsley plant or 1 coriander plant or 1 mint plant, but I don't know if chives is a plant or a single entity like a spring onion or whatever. I also don't know what about Dill, (I think that's a plant), sorrel, (I thought this was leaves like peppery lettuce, but without the body of the lettuce, so no ideal actually what this will look like). Tarragon, (no idea either). It's going to be interesting to find out. The other "problem" is that there were no labels sticks with these so now I've sown them, I don't actually know which one is which, (which allows me the added bonus of "herb roulette", when it comes to re-planting them, (assuming any of them germinate). It would nice had they come with label sticks, (or whatever they're called), but I suppose that would increase the cost so I understand their absence. Had I not been such a novice I would have had some available but alas....... Assuming I've used approx 4-5 of each seed in each propagator, (I've done 2 because I want to give 1 set to a friend), then that still leaves me with plenty more for a 2nd try if required. I looked for a use by date and there isn't a date exactly, but each envelope did have a "sow by 2029" message on it. That's a fair old whack if time, (imo as a novice), so assuming both these sets work then it will leave me enough for 2027, 2028 and 2029 with a few left over. When you consider that B&W wanted £3, £4 and £5 for seed packets when I was in there earlier today, (was already waiting for these so didn't need to buy any herbs), then 10 different packets, which will last you 4 different years of sowing, (assuming 1 sowing per year of approx 5 seeds), then that's simply outrageous value. I suppose it depends on how many germinate and to be fair, if they don't germinate whether that's down to me or the seeds. I was going to start this rating off as a 3 and then upgrade/downgrade based on how things go, but actually, considering I've only paid £4.99 for 10 different herb seeds packs, (and B&Q had a similar product priced at £10.99 I notices earlier although it was in a nice tin), I think I'm going to start with a 5* rating and work down from there.
