All above, especially Japanese water stone, produces superb results, but none of them are as effective and as efficient than this. Was suspicious to what kind of compound I would get and if it is fine enough to produce the hair splitting sharpness, since all end users like me can tell from the selling product is colors: green, brown, white, red, etc.It works amazingly fast and satisfying, I no longer need to stop from working on the dovetails, wet the stone, sharpen the blade, wipe the moist away for ten mins and return to figure out where I left off. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a good add to the arsenal. *by T***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2017* I think this a very nice combination. I'd say on first impression, the piece of leather is of good quality however, it seems a bit short based on other fixed leather strops I've seen, I might have preferred it 12" long rather than 8" but, I knew it's length when I bought it so, no real disappointment there. I wanted to use the smooth side however, the company embossed its name on that side so I decided to glue that side to my wood backer and use the suede side instead. I can't say there's benefit from one side or the other, in use the suede side along with the green compound is easily producing a highly polished cambered edge just as it's supposed to. Truth be told, I only purchased this little combo as an experiment and a minor convenience. I've been using a Tormek grinder with it's stropping wheel for well over 20 years and it produced the highly polished bevel I want but, it's also not always convenient to use, like if I'm on a job and want to refresh a chisel or plane iron. Enter this little hand stop which also produces the polished bevel I want, where and when I need it. I'd buy another one and more if the green compound. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not the best grade leather *by T***M on Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2018* Not the best grade leather, but it is ok. I glued mine to a paddle that I carved for it. The green crayon is standard honing stick. Pretty much medium to fine honing, but not super fine. Overall, I am satisfied, and would buy again if needed.
