This stuff sticks to pretty much everything. All you have to do is clean off dirt and loose rust and you are good to go. It is a relatively slow curing paint, so it will smooth itself some if painted on with a brush, or you can thin it out and spray with a spray gun. (I would not use your good quality gun though). Now for the Caveats: - There is no UV protection, so it will turn a gray color after it has been exposed to the sun for a while. This is not a real problem as you can rattle can paint over the top and avoid this. - If you open the can, make sure you thoroughly clean the surfaces of the lid and the top of the can, then cover the top of the can with plastic before putting the lid back on. If you fail to do this, you will never get the lid back off of the can. - it doesn't really work well on bare metal. You are better to prime your surface before using this. - If you get this on your skin, it will stay there for the next week or so. This stuff really sticks to anything it contacts.
