Magic watercolor
Absolutely beautiful. It is incredible to watch the colors develop. No two strokes of the brush is the same. The effects using different brushes with this paint is amazing. Rich colors and a creamy texture that you can control with the amount of water you use.

Amazing Watercolors that Shine!
I recently acquired three sets of the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. I decided to buy the combination offer as it roughly came out to $8.00 per set which is an excellent deal for artist grade watercolors. Each set contains full size pans at about 1.5x1 inches in size. All pans have individual numbers on the underside for product identification and good for individual replacements which are available. The pans sit in a cardboard package with a palette that can be removed easily. I cut off the end of each to make it easier to slide them out. All of these watercolors have opaque coverage, unlike regular watercolors and make them ideal for illustration and works where you aren't creating multiple layers of color.Starry Colors feature a range of opaque metallic golds and show up well on dark and light papers. The lighter gold presents as a nice alternative to a silver tone. The Pearl palette features pastel tones of primary and secondary hues and is suited best for light papers as all of the colors look somewhat similar on dark paper, but could work well for highlighting other darker colors.Lastly, is the Gem Colors and these honestly are the best set as far as coverage and pigment. They apply rich and beautifully but are especially brilliant on dark paper. The yellow color of the set is comparable to Finetec Arabic Gold which is popular among calligraphers. With all the palettes, you have to work the pan with a brush and /or prep it to lift the colors. Some have recommended misting the palette with a small spray bottle which I plan to try. Overall, these colors are excellent for accenting and highlighting artworks. I highly recommend them for artists who are budget conscious, but seek a quality set of metallic watercolors.

Great price point for granulation
This review is for the 5 color Granulating Colors I palette. These are some of my new favorite granulating colors and I have quite a collection of Daniel Smith Primatek and Schmincke super granulated. These are extremely bold separators with a somewhat unpredictable final result depending on water saturation and paper. The photo here of swatch tests is on a cheapMixed media journal from Walmart and they performed very well. The Aurora Violet behaves like an extreme imperial or ultramarine violet. And the Aurora Orange is somewhere between Daniel Smith Serpentine and Schmincke Desert Green, but these Kuretake are less predictableโ it is truly fun and surprising to work with these. They are the epitome of what makes watercolor special! I always love Kuretake palettes but I hope they make a third set of granulators and keep the new granulating colors coming!

A different texture and consistency from regular Kuretake watercolor pans
This set - despite marketed as watercolor pan - has a different consistency and texture as compared to Kuretake's other watercolor pans. The 1st group of color watch was wet on dry, pan to paper. When dried, there was a sheen to the colors. The lines were the same but as the brush moved across the paper, pigment spread out nicely. The 2nd group were wet on wet but the pigment just sat and did not spread without help. I imagine that you must dilute heavily with water for it to move. But overall really pretty and unique colors. The Red is really a red bean color or a deep mauve. The other are shades of black with different hues. I would try using these really diluted with calligraphy paper next and see how the paint responds differently. This is fun.

Gorgeous Watercolors!
I love these paints! SOOOOO creamy and they lay down very smoothly. I haven't used them a lot, but I've swatched them out and played with them a bit, and I really like them. Many of the colors are nicely transparent and some are fairly opaque, but I like that variety. They ones intended to have a nice pearly sheen and sparkle. It takes a bit of water and some mixing with a brush to really activate them, but once you've got them mixed, they are very, very creamy.Just a note, I found these tins here on Amazon, and they work wonderfully for storing these paints.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076TJ75KT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I have two of the sets in one, and the third set in the other along with a small tin of some hand-crafted watercolors. I added an adhesive magnet to the bottom of each tray to keep them from sliding around. (I buy adhesive magnet "rolls" here on Amazon so I can cut them to size - very handy for a ton of things!) In the tin that is holding the two sets, there is room to add 3 more of the large Kuretake trays laying horizontally between the two vertical rows or, of course, it would be a place to hold paintbrushes. I like how they are organized and also would allow me to take the paints with me to paint on the go.

Incredibly fun paints
These are so fun!! Did a little planet themed test swatch page but part of the awesomeness with these paints is that you can't ever really tell how it's going to turn out. Nice big pans of paint so it'll go a long way. The only one that didn't really have much color change was the cosmic green, but it's a lovely color anyways so I'm not mad. Would've also liked to have a more vibrant purple in the cosmic olive but will play around with it more. Could be a good plant color. I am obsessed with the cosmic violet, the picture does not do it justice! There are about 4 full different shades in that one, a red purple, a blue purple, a navy blue, and a bright blue/almost teal shade. Finally, I am curious how these will hold up with repeated use since water is what dissolves/separates the pigments. I am a little concerned that the layered color effect will become filled as the paints are used and water sits on top of the pans/mixes the pigments on top of the paint rather than the paper. But that may not actually be a thing so we shall see!Edit: editing to add swatches from the second set they have. I don't think I am quite as excited about these, they're still very fun but there is less variety in color and I feel application for these would be less broad. Still, great granulation on all of these!

Excellent, maybe the best metallic watercolor
I have several sets of metallic watercolors, and this one is in a class all it's own. If I could only keep one, I wouldn't have a second thought about it: this would be it! Yes, I've got sets with quadruple the amount of color options, and sets with other special features this is missing...but the quality of these paints are the best I have tried to date. These paints handle well. They can lay down brighter and more opaque than generic paints. These are full pans!! Optionally removable to put into your dedicated palette if you roll like that. So they offer the kind of versatility that a serious artist needs. They don't have that chalky texture like cheapo paints. These are smooth and easy to use.I recommend, especially with metallic (but I actually do this with any pan water color) to keep a small mister spray bottle of water dedicated to your paint collection. Spray some water on the pans a couple minutes before you dip your brush in there. That activates the paint so that your brush is an immediate tool for painting, rather than trying to pull the double duty of delivering moisture to dried-solid paint before it becomes a tool for painting. Trust me, it just works better that way and you get better control. Plus, that has the net effect of being gentler on the brushes and might help your pans last longer.I have seen several dupe attempts at copying this set of paints. I did buy one from here on Amazon after I bought this...just because it has silver...and also I saw a dangerously close looking dupe as far as the packaging and presentation is concerned at the 'Lobby craft store yesterday (which also included a silver). I almost bought it, but nah, I figure there's honestly a good chance it would be the same manufacturer as the other dupe I bought (an all too common phenomenon in the world of store brand and generic brand crafting products--you buy the same thing several times over thinking it's a different product so best to just buy the name brand once). So my only honest complaint about this set is that it is just golds and whites...no good silver, and no coppers and bronzes etc. It doesn't have a full range of the expected, classic metallic pigments that one would desire--but what it does have are going to be the best rendition of metallic golds and whites!! So I think maybe it's best to have a limited palette, but have stellar delivery of what is offered than it would be to have what looks like a great range of colors...but only have a couple of them really perform well, and the rest be disappointing (which is often the case with store/generic brand stuff).I found this set through watching a YouTube video of a color along with an artist named Amy Cesari (she designs yearly planner coloring books). Just mentioning this in case you want to see a professional artist use this product. Often she will color one of her designs and then at the end she loads up a paintbrush with this exact paint, holds it over the completed page, and taps the brush with something (like a dry brush, or a pencil, whatever). So that creates an effect where fine splatters of the metallic paint rain down on the image. It's a beautiful effect.Bottom line: these are seriously good quality paints, and they're more expensive than some sets that look similar but those other sets are lacking in the qualities that these paints offer. Considering these are full pans, made in Japan, and perform so well, they're a great price! I would buy these again. I plan to purchase some of the other sets by this manufacturer, as a couple of them seem to be almost unique as far as the effects they offer. The fact that I saw a store brand obviously trying to copy the packaging for this very set when that store (or any other in my area) doesn't carry this brand of product might say it all. This is the one to get. This is a very special and delightful set of watercolors.

These are magical paints! Just get them!
Oh my! If you love shimmer and glitter and sparkle then you need this set in your life! It is a sensory delight! From wetting the paint pans and conjuring up a puddle of lucious glittery paint, to watching the particles of shimmer spread across the paper, to swishing the brush clean in the water jarโฆ it is just heavenly! My only โgripeโ is that I wish this set had a white/silver color. In the pan the paints look mostly white with a little iridescence. The pans are 1โ wide X 1+7/8โ long X 3/8โ deep. The paint is filled about half way up so you have room to add water and mix it up. The pans are hard white plastic. The pan holder is very shiny coated cardboard which seems to be waterproof. It slides into/out of an outer cardboard box that closes by tucking the tabs in for storage. The pans come out of the holder and their number/name are printed on the bottom so you can put them back in the right spot. The holder is very well constructed and feels sturdy enough. The pans sit snugly in the holder and donโt shift around.Painted on white paper they are very subtle. Iโm tempted to say underwhelming but thatโs not accurate because I can see how applying them to a โregularโ watercolor painting would take that painting to another level of beauty. On black paper is where they take on a life of their own and sing a glorious shimmering song that is so amazingly satisfying! Buy this set and a pad of Strathmore black mixed media paper. Your future self will thank your today self. I highly recommend this paint set! Enjoy my pics and video.
