You can also stick it into the ground but this is inconvenient for us because we would have to take it our and put it back every time we mow our yard. **Q: Is it freeze proof?** A: Hello! If you were to leave it outside I would say to make sure that there is not liquid in the sensors that will freeze and expand. A half inch narrow screw works the best. I put a bit of cheesecloth over the top to keep insects out.
