A First Book of Fairy Tales

My 4yo daughter is obsessed with this book. She got it for Christmas when she was 3, and sat down and listened to the whole thing in one sitting. We lost it at some point, and I bought a new copy, and she constantly asked if it had arrived yet. As soon as it did, we sat down and read it all again. She brings it with her and "reads" the stories in the car, in quite dramatic fashion. The pictures are great. She likes that the table of contents has good pictures of the stories, so she can look at it and pick which one she wants to hear, and is even getting to the point in number recognition that she can find the right page. Of course they are fairytales, and all the instant love and happily-ever-after that comes with them. I sometimes add edits on the spot ("And after they had many conversations during which they realized how compatible they were, and found they shared many core values, they decided to get married!"). But still, it is a great first book of a fairytales, with a good variety of tales and clear telling of them. I recommend!

I bought this for a baby shower - yes I realize she won't be able to read it for quite some time. I grew up listening to my parents read me fairy tales and this collection really covers some of the greats. Sure, they're very short and missing a lot of the complex details that really make people connect to them, but the story lines are still the same. This collection is a great way to introduce very young children to fairy tales without boring them or frightening them. This book is for the beginning reader, not for a child that has been able to read for quite some time. I cannot wait for the little princess to grow up so she can read these to her mother and brothers.

This is a great first book of fairy tales. It has all the favorites and some that are new to me. It's a nice book to cuddle up with and read one or two or settle down with and read them all. My granddaughter now knows how to use the table of contents to find the story she wants which is a skill that will come in handy as she transitions from learning to read to reading to learn.

Beautiful illustrations attract beginning readers to this book. The text is streamlined and simplified from traditional translations of the original works. All the favorites are here, some as short as 2 or 4 pages for readers progressing from picture books. I purchased this book to use with young ESL students and they love it.

My daughter loves this book. I bought it because of the nice pictures and the wide selection of fairy tales. I made a shot in the dark hoping my 1 1/2 year old would like it and she loves it. My daughter picks up the book on her own and reads it. I only wishs is that the stories were a little more longer. The only one I don't care for is the "Little Mermaid" story it is just weird.

As "Mother Goose", I read stories to the children and this book was perfect. The stories are well written and short enough, and the illustrations are lovely. The children really, really enjoyed looking at the pictures as I read to them.

Short stories to read to the LO. The stories are quite different that I grew up being told. But that could just be to protect from Disney Copyrights. IE the little mermaid gets taken by spirits in the sky when she doesn't get her prince charming? But other than the different endings. It is an easy read and little little girl seems to enjoy them.

I sent it to a six year old girl. Her mother told me the little girl loved the book. She was able to read the stories herself and enjoyed the illustrations.

Beautifully illustrated. All the old fairy tales , Snow White etc. This is for a 2 year old who loves a bedtime story.
