Received in perfect condition, I especially like spiral bound recipe books like this one with room for notes. I have wanted this particular book for a long time. Simple and explicit instructions and tons of recipes and not just jams and jellies. Meats of all kind’s poultry and fish and so many ch more. Also safety measures and what to do about screwups.

This has become my all around “go to” canning book.
It is clearly written and has easy to follow instructions on preparation and the process. Lots of basic recipes with several variations and a good place to find ideas for new recipes. Good “tips”, “how-to” and step by step instructions. Just the right amount of detail. There are notes on allowable substitutions and deviations for each recipe. Also, in many cases, the author explains the tested recipes vs the “old way” and why they are different. Processing times and methods, in the recipes I’ve used, are in sync with my Ball & Presto books. Each page has a space provided for “Notes”. I always jot my notes in the margin of my recipes on when I used the recipe, how it turned out and any changes I made. Using the notes space keeps my book overall neater and easier to reference. I especially like the last chapter on Soups & Stews. The recipes are just basic and simple. I like being able to make up a batch of something to see how it works before committing time and space to canning it. It’s good to know that if something is a hit and there are left overs, there is no problem canning it.

Great Canning Book for Anyone
The Amish Canning Book makes an Excellent choice for anyone wanting to preserve food or begin a food storage plan. The recipes are easy to follow. The only thing I wish this book set up was the manner the recipe instructions are placed. I had expected to find instructions to each recipe laid out. However, when the instructions remain the same for certain types of recipes, the instructions are listed separate. This means that once you set out your supplies, you may have to flip back and forth between a couple of pages while you follow along. It would have been nice to have the instructions together with each recipe, but I also understand the need to conserve space during times when recipe preparation instructions are identical. I made homemade black raspberry jam using a recipe from this book and it turned out perfect. The only thing different that I did was reduce the sugar by 2 cups, because 7 cups of sugar seemed a bit excessive. As a result, I ended up with 4 jars, instead of the 6 jars the recipe said I'd get, but that's fine by me. The end result was still delicious.

GREAT CONTENT - EASY TO UNDERSTAND
I have done a little bit of water bath canning, and zero pressure canning. I wanted a simple easy-to-read and comprehensive book. THIS IS IT! Cookbook has lots of recipes for both water bath and pressure canning, and explains the science of canning - dumbed down so it is very easy to understand in clear, concise language. I’ve made four recipes from this book to can already this week, and all were winners: SPLIT PEA SOUP SOUTH OF THE BORDER CHICKEN SOUP canned WHITE POTATOES canned CARROTS I think this is a great book for new canners, but may also have some good recipes for seasoned canners. I can’t wait to work myself through the rest of the book and add more jarred food to my pantry! The book is all about canning - no freezing, dehydration methods, etc. - which I appreciated. I also liked the spiral binding. It lays flat on the counter when I am using it. Great value for the content!

Tolles Buch mit tollen Rezepten auch zur Blackoutvorsorge
Wer sich fürs einkochen und haltbarmachen von Lebendmitteln interessiert kommt hier voll auf seine Kosten. Die Amish leben ja ohne Strom und machen darum Lebensmittel so haltbar daß man dafür keinen Kühlschrank braucht. Als Blackoutvorsorge daher bestens geeignet.
