Will it help scare coyotes out of the  back yard? !  They have become very hungry/brave..

No, I don't think you will have success. It doesn't have much power and it the slings deteriorate quickly. I use mine to shoot dog kibble out into my yard for my dogs to find. The elastic bands broke quickly, and so did the replacement ones. I would recommend something better than this.

Forget the all about the “wrist rockets” that many think of when they think of slingshots.

The reason for the brace on those things, is that usually the bands on those are too strong for the slingshot and the type of shooting most people do. You need some sort of brace just to be able to pull the bands back while your arm is still shaking from the pressure. Proper aiming in such a pose is moot.

It’s not the pounds of draw that makes a slingshot have punch. It’s how quickly the bands recover and the size of band for the ammo you’re shooting.

Try something with flat bands and experiment with different ammo/band combos.

You probably live in New Jersey.
Sling shots are illegal in the People's Republic of New Jersey, a felony to own.
You can own a .45 caliber Glock or an AR-15, but if you have a toy slingshot, it's 10 years in prison. Ironically, it's all based on a clerical error by a clerk in the 19th century! You see, the NJ legislature was trying to ban the slungshot (yes, slungshot), which was a blunt force weapon -- yes, the slungshot, not slingshot.
Some clerk thought that slungshot must be a misspelling of slingshot, so he changed the word to slingshot, and from then on, it has been a felony to own a slingshot in New Jersey -- due to a clerical error!

How do you replace the band on this slingshot? How do you thread it through the tiny holes?

I found a video on this, but for some reason, I can't find it again. I'll try to explain. Take a piece of twine or heavy duty thread. Thread though the loop in the replacement band.  Fold that twine in half. Put the loose ends through the holes on the wooden handle.  Simply pull the twine through the hole of the handle and pull hard. Repeat with the other side. Hope this helps!
