This is a brushed motor. I think you need a brushless motor for your application. **Q: can the chain sprocket be removed?** A: Yes **Q: What is the rated high temperature limit of this motor, for if I install a over temperature cut off safety switch on the outside case of the motor?** A: From what I have read 170* F is pretty standard. That being said it would be weird if the motor didn’t have an internal heat cutout already integrated. Mine has never over heated running 12 volts over spec. I took a ride in 105* F with a friend and his bike over heated four times and mine didn’t. Both brushed motors, 500 watt motor over volt’ed 12 volts and 350 over volt’ed. you couldn’t touch his and mine was much cooler to the touch. There are a lot of variables though. It has a great top end and acceleration, and it has a higher than average RPM so it is doing more than most other models which push less RPMs. In addition, I must note, that I had a dud originally. But the seller offered a replacement and this one is flawless. As I said, it's been 8 months now and it is still strong, and that is with decent use - probably 8 miles a week I ride it. I mention this about the replacement as the seller was very easy to work with and stood by his product, unfortunately, the opposite happens at times but it didn't in this case.
