Well worth the money!
One of the other reviewers mentioned she was skeptical of this machine, but after using it she changed her mind. That got my attention as it seemed a lot of money for JUST a cute toy. However, IT WORKS VERY WELL!! The app works well on my Android phone, After I followed the download and installations directions Completely and enabled LOCATION (which I Never do) after which the machine found the phone and they had a little chat. Neither Wi-Fi nor the app is strictly necessary for this to clean your house, but only to program cleaning areas and schedules. For example, before I got it to pair with my phone, after charging completely of course, I simply turned it on to see what it would do. First it got its bearings, spinning a couple times, located the dock, kissed it just to make sure, and then started cleaning my wood floors; All of them! It found its way around the dining table/chairs, didn't get stuck under the wood rocking chair, cleaned the area rug in the living room Just Fine, wandered into every room and did a Very Good Job of cleaning, even the back hall by the back door! It even found a little pile of course sand in husband's room and got it all (I wouldn't recommend feeding it sand deliberately. I don't think it was happy with that!) I was quite astonished how much hair and lint it picked up! There are things it can't do; toe-kicks for example as it's too tall to get into most of them. And being Round, it has a bit of trouble with some tight corners., and some edges at interface of floor and wall. Some of these places might need Human Intervention, such as in a broom or small hand brush. It can't really do a good job plush pile carpet if it's very dirty. It simply lacks the power and heavy beater bar of a monstrous upright. (But it doesn't claim to compete with those.) [EDIT] So I cleaned mine Really well with the upright monster to give the Shark a head start, and it worked very well. After a couple weeks of Matrix Clean every couple days it's even begun to lift the pile in high traffic areas,. Today for example, the carpet hasn't looked this good in Years!![/Edit] There is a setting in the App to allow it to return to the dock to recharge and resume cleaning, and one to empty itself and resume. What a Good Idea! I recommend that one for sure. I would Highly recommend this machine for Anyone, not merely for an elderly person. The Entertainment Value alone is worth what it cost me, not to mention the time saving issue. This Robot is nothing sort of Brilliant! Just Brilliant! **

effective and efficient robot
I have to vacuum every other day to keep the dust mites away. This robot is quiet, has a hepa filter (which is a must for allergic people) and goes under and around places that are hard to get to. My husband empties the dust bin when it is full. I have carpet, and don’t have time or money to replace floors at this time, but this little robot keeps the house free of allergens as much as is possible without me having to live in a bubble and move to the tundra in Ant Artica or the North Pole.

Great but doesn’t replace a standard vacuum
Tldr: this vacuum save us hours of vacuuming but could be improved We purchased this about a year and a half ago and it has been a lifesaver! We bought it for maintenance day-to-day. It doesn’t get everything, but it keeps us from having to vacuum weekly. We run it weekdays and it vacuums about 1000sq ft of our main floor. We have 2 dogs, one which is long-haired, live on a farm so lots of dirt gets tracked into the house constantly, and our house has been under renovations for 3 years straight. I’d have to vacuum almost daily to keep all the dust, hair and dirt up. Thanks to this little guy, we bust the main vacuum out every 2-4 weeks. My complaints: 1. The tank is too small. I have to empty it every 1-2 days. Someone with a tiny apartment with bo pets could probably get away emptying once a week or so. 2. The battery life sucks. It only lasts about an hour. That can’t even cover 1000 sq ft on medium suction. And it takes hours to recharge. It also has trouble saving enough battery to redock to charge, so we frequently randomly find it lying around for a few days dead before we notice. 3. The app isn’t great. It constantly logs us out, it has a significant delay starting/stopping from the app, and it gets confused if any furniture moves. 4. Hair gets caught in it easily. I have to clean off the brush at least once a week.

3 years and still going strong!!!
We have had this Shark robot vacuum for over 3 years now and “she” is still going strong. We run her at least 4 days a week. Pros: Price vs other robot vacuums. Suction is great. We have tile floors with multiple area rugs and she handles the transitions well. There are 4 long-haired girls and two dogs in our house and this thing handles the hair really well. There have been times when I’ve had to remove hair that got wound up around the roller but, considering the amount of hair shed in our home, that doesn’t happen very often and I don’t consider that a con. The capacity of the dust bin is good and I love that it doesn’t require bags. Money saver! The mapping feature is so nice, allowing us to decide exactly where we want/need cleaning. The scheduling feature is also a big plus. Cons: This isn’t a big deal to us but it might be to some… when the vacuum is emptying into the base dustbin, it is a little loud. Maybe not the best thing if you’re running it with light sleepers/baby/phone calls. You can buy replacement filters, rollers, brushes, etc. and they are easy to change out. It has been so convenient and saved me time between manual deep vacuuming. (Our “regular” vacuum is also a Shark product.) The fact that we’ve had this Shark robot vacuum for over 3 years, and it’s still going strong, makes me give 5 stars without hesitation. I definitely recommend it. I’m so pleased with the performance and durability, I’m actually considering possibly upgrading to the Shark Power Detect Never-Touch vacuum and mop combo.

Absolutely abysmal cleaning and battery performance
absolutely abysmal cleaning and battery performance I bought this botvac to replace our Neato. The neato has been good but Neato is no longer producing botvacs and the support is all but gone. With that in mind we decided to replace the Neato even though it’s still performing well, at least for now. We started looking for a self emptying model and one that’s only a vac because we have very little hard floors, a mopping unit would be a waste. Not having a proprietary bag was a big plus too. We looked at a lot of reviews after much debate settled on the Shark AV2501S AI Ultra as it checked all the boxes and had decent reviews. $550 was on the high end of our budget but when the price dropped to $279 on Amazon we quickly pulled the trigger! The unit arrived over night and well packed as expected. We unpacked and put the botvac on it’s base and allowed it to charge over night before we even set it up. Setup went Ok, but the first indication of problems started as soon as we had it do it’s first mapping run. We watched it and it missed lots of areas that the Neato had no problem navigating even though the Neato is slightly bigger. We wanted to check the full cleaning power so we set it to max and turned it loose. It came of the base ran about 1 min and then returned to it’s base... WTH? First fail. Restarted the full house clean on max again and same result! Second fail! Ok, maybe it’s something I did wrong. Factory reset, set it back up, did another mapping run and sent it out again. SAME THING! Fail three. Ok, I’m a bit stubborn so I send it back out again with recharge and resume & evacuate and resume both on. It only makes sense right? Low and behold, it actually starts to vacuum the house but… after about 45 min it returns to it’s base to empty and recharge. WTH? It’s supposed to have a 120min battery life! 3 hours later it finishes it’s run. Almost 4 hours to vacuum the house... The Neato did it in about 1 hour with plenty of charge to spare. Fail four! At this point it’s been an all day affair. Frustrated we leave it to charge over night and try again in the morning. The next mornings attempt 2 went not much better. I deactivated the recharge and resume & evacuate and resume and sent it back out again with max. Shark states it has a 120min run time so we figured even though it was on max it should have no problem with our house which has 800sqft of open floor space. At first it wouldn’t start because it was asking to empty the dust bin. Ok, completely emptied the base and bot, blew them out with compressed air so they were squeaky clean and tried again. Success! It finally starts it’s run. At about the 40% battery remaining level or so I noticed the suction sound reduce down to the “normal” level. Not cool… It did manage to finish the run but I noticed it wasn’t picking up even small pieces of debris. Fail five! Ok, my butt is really getting chapped about now so immediately I sent the Neato out on max power as we always do. Keep in mind the Shark had already done a run and the Neato needs to have the dust bin emptied every time so it’s empty too. Time to compare the results. All the stuff the Shark clearly missed is gone and it only took about a hour as usual. Let’s see how much the Shark and Neato picked up. I took both dust bins and dumped them each onto a sheet of paper. OMG! The Shark performed abysmally. While I didn’t do any scientific measuring you can see the Neato picked up at least 5 times or more debris than the Shark. And that was right AFTER the Shark had done it’s run. Bottom line – the Shark’s performance is atrocious. The suction is poor, the battery life is poor and the mapping is poor. This thing is headed back to where it came from! So disappointed...

Great purchase!!
Perfect. Still works well just need to add a mop now. All I had to do so far is replace the battery.

Great vacuum! Loved it 3 1/2 years. Then it broke.
I’ve loved this vacuum. I’ve had mine 3 1/2 years and run it every night. It’s been great. It has three filters and the third one rarely needs cleaning. I have medium hair cats and it keeps the fur picked up. It is also very good at picking up dust and dirt, and I live in a rural area with a lot of dirt. HOWEVER, fur gets wrapped around the part of the brush roll that goes into the turning mechanism, and even though I clean the brush every other night, it has worked fur and lint into the brush roll turning mechanism. There is no way to clean it out and the two brushes in the front keep falling off. Therefore my vacuum is not useable anymore. Because I can’t clean it, I’m very disappointed. I do not have anywhere to take it for service.

Helps, but doesn’t last & needs a lot of babysitting.
I originally bought this in May 2022–so this review is all about how it’s doing nearly three years later. For over two hundred clams (I paid three, I think), I’d expect it to last a few years. First, the cons: just know that if almost any part breaks, the whole thing becomes useless. If you are out of the warranty period, you’ve got yourself a giant, clunky hockey puck on your hands. The first one I bought accidentally ran into a sheepskin (I’d put it up, but these lil guys are nothing if not persistent and it rammed the table legs until it fell off), and one of the little sweeper arms broke off in the tangled wool. I was still in warranty, so they sent me new arms—but they wouldn’t stay in because a tiiiiiiny little metal clip had broken. It was smaller than my pinkie nail. The result? They sent me a whole new Shark. Good customer service, but come on! It’s because the seller just buys the whole thing from the manufacturer—so there are no spare parts to be had beyond the few obvious ones. So I’ve had this second one for over two years. It works okay. It is no miracle worker, but it helps. I live in the country and have a dog, cat, and long hair. The dust bunnies, pine needles, moth wings, etc, are no joke. When I have it running twice a week, my wood floors are not humiliating when someone drops by. But I absolutely still need to vacuum behind it. Corners and edges are not handled great, and while it is fantastic at getting all the way under some furniture, every now and then a “deep clean” misses large swaths of the floor. You’ve also *got* to babysit the thing if you have any amount of stuff. It gets stuck in the bathroom loop rugs *sometimes*; it will push a door closed and get stuck in a room; as previously mentioned, it will ram table legs, jump small edges, and rattle around diligently when it wants—but this means it gets stuck a lot. Even when I “blocked out” areas (the sliding glass door track always triggered its ‘edge’ alarm for example), it still randomly goes to those areas. Sometimes the app works well and sometimes no. I will tell it to clean a specific room, and later find it trying to clean the rest of the house. I will tell it to deep clean and it does a single half-axxed job and goes back to its cradle. All that said, the self emptying feature is 1000% worth it. Otherwise I’d have to empty it 2-4 times in every pass of my <1200 sq ft home. It does help keep the grit at bay on my hardwood floors and to a lesser extent on my carpet—though at year 2+ it is more and more lackadaisical and misses a lot. TL;DR: it is helpful, especially if you have a dusty or gritty floor, but don’t expect it to run on its own or replace your regular vacuum completely.
