Excellent bees took to them straight away

I read that the canes used in bee houses can eventually harbour mites that can harm bee larva. So I bought these tubes to replace the canes in my two bee houses each year, once the bees have 'hatched'. So I actually will not get to use these until next spring. They appear well made and the tubes are of the correct size, not too small or big. Length wise I may have to cut them to get them to fit.

Heb al jaren verschillende bijenhotels voor de metselbijen. Ieder jaar rond deze tijd komen die uit de oude buisjes tevoorschijn. Nu is het zo dat de nieuwe generatie bijen toch het liefst in nieuwe buisjes hun eitjes leggen in plaats van de reeds gebruikte. Werk al jaren met steeds nieuwe bamboe buisjes waar ze zonder probleem in gaan. Dit jaar bij wijze van proef de helft bamboe en de andere helft van deze kartonnen buisjes gebruikt om te kijken welke ze liever hebben. Maakt voor de bijen dus geen verschil, zie foto's. Ga in het vervolg dus deze kartonnen buisjes gebruiken want daar kunnen er veel meer in een hotel omdat ze minder ruimte innemen door de dunnere wand.

I got this tip from a blog while looking for extenders for my Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils: pop in a 5/16" wooden dowel covered with some hot glue, followed by your pencil. Super cheap, super effective way to extend the life of your pencils! (You'll have to check the diameter of yours if you want to do the same; these worked specifically for my Luminance set.)
