While Siamese Dream wasn't Butch Vig's most successful album, that would be Nevermind by Nirvana, he took yet another alt rock band, the Pumpkins, and put them on the top with Siamese Dream, then he'd go on and start Garbage who complimented bands like the Pumpkins at alt rock shows and whatnot. Siamese Dream is just great from the first to the last song, feels almost wrong to just name off a few but 'Disarm' went right to heavy rotation on MTV and alt rock stations, and 'Today' seemed to get the same love. But while the radio kids were happy with those two, 'Soma' and 'Mayonnaise' became the live favorites, It was just one of those albums that didn't have an ounce of fluff, any of the tracks could have been picked to be the hit single on the radio. The next album wouldn't have Butch, Collie would be hteir first album without him, but they learned enough from him to make it sound like he had produced it. In short, this is one of those albums where it makes me wonder why producers don't get more credit. Had Bob Rock not have produced the black album by Metallica, they'd be doing no better than Anthrax. But thanks to Bob, they have action figures and their own beer and their own plane. The die hard fans didn't care for the album but its not about making music that only a small chunk of people like, its about making the band sound their best and winning over as many as possible.

One of the best rock albums of the last two decades.
I think the Smashing Pumpkins were one of the best rock bands of the 90's, easily. Billy Corgan has become one of my favorite guitarists recently. His work on the studio albums is brilliant, layering guitar upon guitar with brilliant riffs and awesome solos. His lyrics are often depressed and angry, but they show hope and beauty too. Lyrics aren't usually as important to me as music, but Billy Corgan writes good ones, in my opinion. "Cherub Rock" opens up with a simple clean guitar playing the main riff. Within less than a minute, a wall of guitars is hitting you, but it's still extremely listenable. The melodies of this song are awesome, and I'd bet you've heard it on the radio. "Quiet" is a assault of layered metal riffs. "Today" is another radio song. It's one of the weaker songs on the whole, but I think it's still pretty nice. "Hummer" is nearly 7 minutes long, with several different parts and great textures and melodies. "Disarm" is a beautiful acoustic guitar and vocal track, with strings added (that are good and not cheesy). "Soma" starts with a peaceful clean guitar riff, but explodes into a wall of distorted guitars and wild leads. "Geel U.S.A." is one of the best rockers, and one of the most layered. I don't know how many guitars are in this song, but I'm pretty sure it's more than 12 or so. The solo is wildly energetic, and the metal riffs are awesome. "Mayonaise" is gorgeous and noisy at the same time. There are no bad songs. When I first got into the Pumpkins, I didn't like Billy Corgan's voice that much, but I've grown to love it...I dunno. The wall of sound created by Billy Corgan's guitars combined with his original voice and songwriting is also backed up by the experienced drumming of Jimmy Chamberlain. He used to be in a jazz band apparently, and the guy definitely knows what he's doing. If you want my opinion (I guess you do, if you've read this far), this is one of the best rock albums of the 90's, and you should buy it. Highly recommended.

One of the most influential albums of the 90s
Wow!! This album is killer. I originally bought it in 2020, right as the pandemic hit. I shared it with a good friend of mine, in which he asked if he could borrow it, fast forward a year, he learned to play several chords from "Cherub Rock", and he was disappointed when he had to return it back to me a few weeks ago. I immediately came back here to purchase a copy for him. Dude the look on his face, that now he will forever have his own copy of this iconic album... priceless. If you even have the slightest feeling of getting this album, do it!!!! It is oozing with 90s nostalgia, huge guitar riffs and drum signatures that defined music moving forward. I wanted to get another copy earlier but the price had rocketed to $400+. So glad to see it down under $100 again. Such a fantastic album!!!!
