Instantly became my favorite mechanical pencil
I got this a few days ago and it almost instantly became my favorite mechanical pencil. I only have a few to compare it to (Staedtler 925-35, Pentel P205 Sharp, and Zebra M301), but I feel like for long writing sessions the GG500 blows all of them out of the water. As much as I love the Staedtler, it's very heavy and can feel tiring after a while. But the GG500, with most of the weight near the tip, just feels like it's effortlessly floating on the paper. I think the wider grip also contributes to how comfortable it is to write with. The lead indicator is also a nice touch, and is the main reason why I prefer this model over the PG525 since almost all of my pencils have different lead in them. I think my only complaint with this pencil is that when putting the eraser cap back on, you have to push it down pretty hard, which advances the lead. Admittedly I don't use the built-in eraser very often so it's not a huge deal for me. Overall I love this pencil, it just feels amazing to write with and the price is fantastic

Decent for the price
A good pencil, but it feels a bit "cheap" in the hand. I think it's worth the money, but I decided to go for the graph gear 1000 instead

Good Alternative to Heavier Pencils
So far it works just fine. This pencil has a plastic barrel and what feels like metal for the grip and tip, making it easy to control. Doesn't get my writing hand as tired as some of the heavier pencils I own. Only downside is that it does not have a retractable tip.

Nice
Hard to find the grey GG500 with the lead indicator. Glad it was available. No Original packaging though

I've always loved Pentel pencils
I've always loved Pentel pencils. This one is nice, just like many other kinds from Pentel. And one thing that makes me feel even better is that my little bro loves it so much.

Excellent entry level drafting pencil
No, it's not a Rotring, that said it's about one third the price. This pencil is comfortable and writes exceptionally well. Leads rarely break and are dispensed easily. If you are looking to buy a good "my first drafting pencil" this is an excellent option for you.

Pentel GraphGear 500 Review The Pentel GraphGear 500 is a solid choice for those who need a reliable mechanical pencil for drafting, sketching, and everyday writing. It strikes a great balance between affordability and professional features, making it a popular option among students, engineers, and artists. Design & Build Quality The pencil features a metal grip with a knurled texture, providing a firm and comfortable hold. The barrel is plastic, which keeps the pencil lightweight, but some users might prefer a full-metal build like the GraphGear 1000. The weight distribution is front-heavy, which helps with precision, especially for technical drawing. Performance & Writing Experience The lead advancement mechanism is smooth and consistent. The fixed 4mm lead sleeve is great for drafting against rulers and templates. Available in 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm, and 0.9mm versions, catering to different preferences. The built-in eraser is functional but small, so frequent users might need a separate eraser. Pros & Cons ✅ Pros: Excellent grip for precision work Good weight distribution for stability Affordable for its quality Sturdy build for long-term use ❌ Cons: Plastic barrel may feel less premium No retractable tip, making it prone to damage if dropped Small eraser Verdict For its price, the GraphGear 500 delivers a fantastic writing and drawing experience. While it lacks some of the premium features of higher-end models, it’s a solid, well-balanced mechanical pencil that performs well for professionals and students alike. If you want something more refined, consider the GraphGear 1000, but for precision and value, the 500 is hard to beat. ⭐ Rating: 4.5/5
