The center body has diamond etching for a comfortably sure grip, and there is a flat space in it which points to the switch. To my surprise, I find that the flat space works very well in the dark to guide my thumb to the switch. Overall, I think the light is well designed, and it seems well made, of good material. It looks and feels like quality. The light is heavyish with the two D batteries in it but light without them. The alloy body is particularly well made and is streets ahead of a typical plastic torch. It is not quite as robust or bright as my Maglite, but is a lot cheaper and delivers most of the functionality. Because it is easier to carry around, I've ended up using it more and then getting several for round the house and car.
