The user should be aware that German is an inflected language that calls for agreement of modifiers with subjects, etc. For this reason no short dictionary can provide the various inflected endings required by verbs, nouns, etc. that represent agreements beween the various parts of speech. Usually, however, it will afford clues as to the root words. Further, German nouns fit into groups that are sometimes referred to as genders. This dictionary does not offer information on these particular distinctions. German idioms also are litle represented. But even much more comprehensive dictionaries do not address all of the structural issues for which the casual reader or translator may wish to have clarification or assistance. A succinct way of highlighting the issue of translation is by acknowledging that a dictionary's contents do not by themselves constitute a language, nor can a dictionary substitute for learning a language. The slightly used copy that I purchased arrived in good condition.

Terrific dictionary, very accurate translations
Excellent dictionary, comprehensive and perfect for my studies. Iโm (re)learning German after decades of not using it (along with Norwegian and Spanish) and this works great! Since most of the learning is online having a physical book I can check for translations is invaluable. Highly recommend for translating either way!

Handy for Beginners...
Just an inexpensive German-English, English-German Dictionary, small in size and print. No colorful illustrations, pics, just text mostly. Purchased for my son, who was in beginning German Language class. Not comprehensive enough by the end of second semester, but a tidy, handy German pocket book for the initial class. (Who wants to spend $$$ on a dictionary the first semester anyway?) If you are in it for the long run, buy something more comprehensive. For the initial explorer, it is easy on the budget.

So Easy to use!
I like the German-English, English-Germany Dictionary, 2nd edition. As a beginning student of the German language, I need a "go to" for easy translations into English when I get stuck with a Germany word. It has a permanent home on my desk!
