Can you replace magnesium rod from handle?

No, you can not. But it's rated for 12,000 strikes! So you will most likely lose it before you would need to replace the rod.

Actual size of ferro rod, not including handle?

The actual ferro rod is about 2.75" inches long. The perfect size, not so short that it's hard to use and not too long to make it heavy.

Can you scrape magnesium off to use as a starter?

Yes, This is a ferro rod so it's like the flint and magnesium all throughout the rod. I scrape mine slowly to get some scrapings on what I'm lighting and then a couple of quick strokes to get the sparks and ignite the scrapings. It works very well. Hope this helps!
