Why does this require batteries? It's supposed to plug in.

This model is corded only and doesn't require batteries to properly function.

What’s the difference between the dws716 ($349) and the dw716 ($292) and the dw716xps ($279)? you would think the one with the laser would be more.

The last sucks there's one with a light on blade and one without. Their all the same saw just light or no light. I have all 3 and hate the laser and don't use the light. I cut in the day lol.
