UFO sightings and alien abductions, mystical experiences and psychic phenomena, the near-death and the out-of-body experience--millions of ordinary people around the world report experiencing these events at some point in their lives. Yet, because there is no accepted scientific theory to explain the paranormal, the events--and the people who report them--are ridiculed and dismissed. The problem isn't the people, it's the science. While some cutting-edge researchers and quantum physicists are speculating more frequently that these experiences are caused by something beyond our world--some kind of higher-dimensional reality--any proposed extra-dimensional theories put forth thus far have lacked one key ingredient--expanded consciousness. Extra-Dimensional Universe presents an expanded framework of space, time, and consciousness. This, for the first time, explains how paranormal phenomena can exist. Violette's landscape-altering theory is fully compatible with all the findings of modern scientific research--and ancient wisdom traditions--and clearly explains the science of paranormal events such as UFOs and abductions, mystical and psychic phenomena, and the near-death experience. Violette even reveals that expanded consciousness is the key to understanding why some people experience psychic phenomena such as UFOs or ghosts when others don't. An advancement of the classic theories of R. M. Bucke and P. D. Ouspensky, Extra-Dimensional Universe is itself destined to become a classic of the science of spirituality. Review: "Our time is really motion in extra dimensional space." - "Our time is really motion in extradimensional space." This is a deceptively simple sentence, yet it speaks worlds. I have been reading everything available on the concept of a physical 4th dimension (as opposed to a mathematical abstraction) for two decades now. This book is not only the best summary- but it is the first in ages to break new ground. The basic premise here is that we (and literally everything else) are 4th dimensional entities intersecting with a 3 dimensional world. A profound correlary to this is: just because we no longer intersect does not mean that we no longer exist. The author addresses the subject on all levels- subatomic physics, cosmology, consciousness, and "unexplainable" phenomenon. His tie-in with the "perennial philosophy" is especially elegant. Of course, if you prefer hard science, then the revelation that Cerenkov radiation represents an "optic boom" analogous to a sonic boom is worth the price of the book- at least to me it was. Not only is a tight case made for the existance of a 4th dimension made, but a reason and a purpose is stated for why we are just now becoming aware of it in significant numbers- survival pressure and evolutionary response. It is pointed out that on almost every level ours is a threatened civilization, indeed a threatened planet. 4th dimensional perception results in an expanded consciousness that transcends petty materialism and leads to a spirit of unity and interconnectedness (since everything IS really connected to a greater whole.) More importantly, it represents somewhere to exist if we do manage to render this planet uninhabitable. This is the most significant book that I have reviewed in years- perhaps ever. I've read just about everything of significance in the bibliography. The author knows what he is talking about. Review: Wonderful explanation for paranormal phenomena - I am still in the process of reading Mr. Violette's book and am so impressed that I couldn't wait to finish before writing a review. His explanation for the extraordinary events that we encounter in our world seems to be one of the best I have yet to read. I do have a couple of questions I would like to ask the author (about animals living in a 2-D world), but when I contacted the publisher, I learned that Mr. Violette passed away in 2005. A sad loss to the world.

Interesting Book
This is a book by John Violette. Before going further, please note that this book is written with an average reader in mind. No special scientific or mathematical knowledge is required. Basically, the author's contention is that we actually live in a universe with 4 spacial dimensions, and what we perceive as time is motion in extra (fourth) dimensional space. In our present, usual state of consciousness, we cannot perceive this 4th spacial dimension, but, if our consciousness expands, the 4th spacial dimension is extracted from what we ordinarily perceive as time. For this to make sense, the author explains by analogy to beings living in one and two dimensional worlds interacting with two and three dimensional worlds, respectively. The book, Flatland by Abbott, explains this in more detail, and it may be helpful to read this short, but interesting work before tackling Violette's book. From his basic contention of an extra (fourth) spacial dimension, which also leads to a different time concept, the author takes the mystery out of the mystical experience, psychic phenomenon, UFO's (including abductions) and life after death. He notes how people who have experienced these phenomenon describe them in very similar ways; the 4th spacial dimension seems to be in the inside out direction. Their consciousness expands, at least temporarily, and they then can see this 4th spacial dimension, and the world they came from is a small part of the new world they enter. The book concludes with a chapter on extra dimensional theory and the new physics - quantum theory, string theory etc. It is written so that an average reader can understand, so don't panic if science is not your forte. Very interesting how this all fits together, and there is plenty weirdness here to keep readers entertained and get them thinking at the same time. I would have given this book 5 stars instead of 4, but I thought it was a little unclear here and there and could have been shortened in parts to make for better flow. I still highly recommend it, since the subject matter is so interesting.

Great information!
Knowing this information strenthens one's belief in the immortality of man. I've read a thousand books - this has practically topped off my education - a great buy for the money.

Undecided
The author tries to hook a lot of complex phenomena into his proposals - which is perhaps understandable when taking into account the subject he is writing about - but in my view his book is frayed for it. The UFO/abduction phenomenon, NDEs and even God are touched upon, but never really given the depth or consideration they require. Instead of being asked if they would like to participate in this extra-dimensional theory business, and granted the respect of answering for themselves, they were apparently dragged along by the ear. The whole issue was not treated in spiritual enough a manner for my liking. You cannot tackle the subject of God and inner being and still try and be acceptably scientific: you need to ditch the labcoat wholeheartedly at the doorstep and walk in blindfolded. That said, a reasonable introduction to such things for those who are at a relevant level of "discovery". A bit lacking for those who have already made some headway though I feel.

A solid work, worth the read.
John R. Violette elegantly portrays a vision of reality with simple yet powerful analogies. Using 2-dimensional "plane-beings" as examples, he explains how various paranormal phenonemon can occur, and how we can perceive ourselves existing in in a slice of higher-dimensional space. While encompassing a wide spectrum of concepts and issues, a sense of coherence is held throughout the book, carrying the reader on a convincing journey into the heart of the "extra-dimensional theory". The book is tied off in a satisfying, uplifting manner, providing a conceptual framework of the universe which incorporates many existing theories and beliefs. Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in furthering their understanding of the world they exist in.

Easy approach to a difficult subject.
I read this book. It is very well organized and the author seems to be well read on the subject of physics and also on philosophy supporting the new physics background. Part III of the book [Extra-Dimensional Theory and the New Physics] is a good approach for a difficult subject and the author manages to give examples and analogies for the person not well versed in physics and mathematics. The Kaluza-Klein theories are very simply explained. The only flaw I found, and it is not a limiting matter for a buying/reading decision is when the author enters the subject of "spiritualism" --as called by him, when he really meant "spiritism". Spiritism is not dead, as he asserts; perhaps Mr. Violette did not make an exhaustive investigation and rested on early 20th century information. He also gives a very simple excuse of scientific fundamentalism to drive away the spiritism philosophy or practice anywhere. Anyway, I will certainly recommend this book for someone who wants to begin learning the concepts behind parallel universes, and the latest physics research. I recommend that besides this book, another book and DVD may be read and seen, such as The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene and also the books by Dr. Michio Kaku, Hyperspace and his new one, Parallel Worlds. Certainly this is a good book and for its price you cannot go wrong. Very good.

Amazing book
This is an amazing book. Clarified Ouspensky's Tertium Organum for me. Although it was released in 2001 it is still relevant and the best explanation of the 4th dimension that I've read so far. I can't add much more to the existing reviews, I just agree with all of them. Was looking for other works by Mr. Violette but one review mentioned that he had passed away in 2005. A real shame, I would have loved to read more about his theories.
