Exactly what I needed in a headlamp.
I needed a few different lighting options in my line of work. I have rechargeable spot and floodlights, I needed something small and handsfree. You look around online and see all these different options foe headlamps At one time I considered buying rechargeable batteries and then having a battery charging station in my truck. That seemed outdated to me. The charge port is unobtrusive, the light modes are simple to switch through. I have no need of a long range light so the simple, well diffused flood light works well in my application. The flashlight seems well built, just like any other Streamlight product. There is a WHOLE LOT of electronic technology in this light. You have to disable the 'Demo' mode by fully charging it. The Lithium Polymer battery is not replaceable in this model, so when you run out of juice, you have to charge it. Which means taking it off your head. That isn't a problem for me, as I use the "low" setting almost exclusively. And if I am working with this overnight, about the time the battery dies, the sun will come up. There is no indicator for when the battery is getting low. The light simply quits. Considering it weighs 1.4 ounces I wouldn't want them to put any voltage sensing circuitry on it. If you use this thing daily you may blow through the recharges on this lamp's battery. Which is supposed to be 300-400. I use it weekly, so I am expecting to surpass streamlight's warranty of 2 years. That is a nice touch, I have their Stinger DS, and I had had it rebuilt over the last 6 years owning it. They always honor their warranty with me. Overall this is a great little lamp, it does exactly what I need it to do, with no frills or extra weight. No unnecessary accoutrements or features.

WELL-DESIGNED
Streamlight makes first-class products, but they tend to be a bit pricy. Amazon marked this down to under $24 and my impression is, at that price, it’s a bargain. I got the model with the pivoting hat clip, which easily snaps on and off the light. It comes with a stretch fabric band that will slide right on to the hat clip. With two ways to wear, this rig is more versatile than most. I have lots of headlamps and my basic criterion for effectiveness is whether it will adequately light up my path, in the dark, 20 feet ahead. For any more than that, I want a real flashlight. This light is going to live in my house, because I would never take a rechargeable on a hunting or camping trip, but small as it, it seems capable of delivering that amount of light. The instructions warn to fully charge the light before use, but I pushed the button to see if it worked when it arrived. The lens was pointed towards my face and from 18 inches away, it was blinding. Plugged in, it charged in 15 minutes. There is an indicator to inform you when it goes from charging mode to full-up. The instructions confirm the run time of up to 9.5 hours on Low Power, which is another feature I like. I want headlamps that would allow me to march through the night if I get stuck somewhere. More impressively, the instructions advise that, the 2-hour (High) & 9.5-hour (Low) run times will increase by 50% if you switch to the green led mode. It would have to be an emergency for me to want to use green light and this clever design requires some extra button-pushing to make it go green or to make it go into flash mode. What I want---99% of the time---is just what the basic programming delivers. A single push is all it takes to get you from Low, to High & back to Off. It is a pretty nifty light.

Great Ultralight Head-Mounted Floodlight
I bought the Bandit despite already owning a focused headlight that is considerably brighter, but also considerably heavier. The focused spot, while useful for distant spotting at night, was not ideal for just walking around in the dark, either outdoors or inside. My impression is that the Bandit is perfect for that. I read some reviews that say that the headband was too thin and loose, but found the adjustable band to be perfect for holding up the Bandit, which weighs in at just over an ounce. I haven't tried the cap mount yet. I plan to use the light on low, not having any need so far for the bright setting. I tested the light for low light level operating time and got 6.5 hours from the first charge and 7 hours from the second. Possibly the operating time will increase more with recurring cycles. I also measured the output light (lux) level over the second operating trial a short distance from the light. Starting at 100%, the light declined steadily to about 12% at shutdown after 7 hours. This is not as bad as it sounds, however, because the eye's perception of brightness is logarithmic, more like a cube root of the light level, so the perceived brightness at 7 hours was more like half of the perceived brightness at the start. If the light is used up close or in dark adapted conditions at night, it provides adequate light to both read or work on things close up and to navigate safely through obstacles. The information on the paper provided with the Bandit appears to have errors. It indicates a charge time of 1.5 hours with a 1000 ma draw. I measured a maximum charging current about 200 ma while using a charger that could supply 2000 ma. Also, the charging time in both trials was about 2.5 hours. The information supplied by Streamlight on the Amazon webpage appears to be a better match with reality, indicating a 450 mah battery that requires 2.5 hours for charging. With a 200 ma charging current dwindling down to about 10 ma at the end of charge, a time of 2.5 hours is very reasonable for that mah rating.. Although I really like the light, I wish that it had a slightly larger battery to extend the usable operating time to 12 hours or so. Hopefully, it will get closer to the claimed 9.5 hour operating time as the battery gets broken in.

Perfect headlamp for most uses
7/7/20 Update - I didn't realize Streamlight has a newer "pro" version of this headlamp with much better battery life for about twelve bucks more. I am returning this one and getting the pro version: https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-61715-Bandit-Pro-Headstrap/dp/B07T869J1Z?ref_=ast_sto_dp 7/4/20 Update: I am lowering my original 5 star review to 4 stars due to battery life. I am only getting 6 hours on the lower brightness level, 3.5 hours less than the stated 9.5 hour run time. This headlamp I would imagine would be perfect for most uses. It has a wide beam so you don't have to keep turning your head to point the lamp at whatever you are doing, which you have to do with most headlamps. This is due to its unique design with an almost florescent light like capability. It has 2 brightness levels and the lower level should be plenty for most uses and the brighter level is handy to have if you really need it. Love the fact that you get 9 hours of run time on the low light level. Used this for night fishing and it was absolutely perfect and I also love the fact that it comes with a hat clip so you can clip it onto the brim of your baseball cap and don't have to use the head band, I actually prefer it on the hat most of the time but it's nice that you have the headband if you want to use it that way. Easily rechargeable via micro USB. All in all a great all around headlamp.

Bright light
Another great Streamlight product. This little light is super bright on both white and green. Comfortable to wear and easy to turn on and off.

Used for HVAC. I love it.
I love it! The light is just right for working in dark, cramped locations. Great example of a “real” company making an affordable yet excellent headlamp. So lightweight and low-profile. Other headlamps I’ve tried are brighter (99% of the time this is unnecessary and y’all know it). Other headlamps I’ve tried hold bigger, immediately replaceable batteries but then there is an additional weight or bulk that makes the light annoying to wear. Since I use this for HVAC work, I stick it on the charger in my work truck when it’s low—no biggy. I thought I might be annoyed that I couldn’t just pop in an 18650 but the reduction in weight and bulk MORE than makes up for it. Also, I’ve always got at least one other handheld torch in my tool bag so I’m never truly at risk of having my day screwed up by a dead battery. If you’re really worried about running out of juice at the wrong time, buy two of these—they are so light and compact you can carry an extra without any more inconvenience than carrying an extra battery. Seriously, the whole thing is only a little bigger than one 18650 and possibly lighter!

Okay for certain kind of work
It's okay... I work at LAX as a technician (not an aircraft mechanic) so I needed a light that was less for inspecting the underside of a plane wing and more for technical work in the ceiling in the plane or below the seats where I can barely fit my head and don't need a really bright light. I've had this thing for about year I think now. For the most part this fits the bill, but I actually use headlamps pretty sparingly in my day to day work (the light on the plane /with my phone is usually good enough) so when I bring it out its usually because I REALLY need it... Maybe somewhere small and when i need both hands, or if I need to inspect something not visibly accessible with my phones low light output... And reliability is where this thing sorta falls flat. The power button is too easy to accidently activate, I usually carried it bunched up in my cargo pocket until people were constantly noticing I had a bright light coming through my pants, or if I felt a little heat against my thigh, and then with the small battery and no fast way to charge this thing, I'd be out of luck if I actually needed to use it that night. Also this light doesn't seem designed to be used sparingly, for a while after finding out I couldn't keep this light on me in any way without accidently activating it I would just leave it in my toolbag down at my van while I did work and would come down to get it if I needed it... Except sometimes I would go a month or more without needing anything more than my phone, and when I REALLY needed this, the battery was ALWAYS depleted... Even when I had it fully charged after last use. It was very exasperating, and it's when I realized rechargeable headlamps aren't for me... I literally have 10 or so devices that need to be charged every other day, if not daily like my phone and my battery packs so I guess it was stupid of me to think the tradeoff for a less bulky and light weight headlamp would be worth the downsides and constant charging.... What worked well for me were Streamlights other product, the sidewinder compact I think with the ability to use 3 different kinds of batteries, but at the airport its been stolen twice and they aren't cheap... If i find a cheaper and decent alternative to that I'll update this review, but as for now I'm going to be dealing with this thing for awhile... Just make sure you're OK with the tradeoffs if you decide it's what you need, because otherwise light output and design are perfect... If it had a different power button and either fast charging or a way to attach a tiny backup battery to dangle from it or something I would say it's perfect... Maybe for version 2.0?

Great handy light. Buy 2 so you always have one ready to go.
Great little light! I usually have this little light around my neck at work, and I love it. The white or green light have a dim and bright mode. I’m usually using the dim green mode inside the cockpit and the bright white light outside the aircraft. Both lights are flood lights so the light won’t travel far. I’d love a AAA version of the light or something That I can switch out the Nicad, but for the size of light it will never happen. My solution is to charge weekly and to have 2 of these lights ready to go. After about a year of use, I have used them inside and outside of the cockpit. In my vehicle and outside my vehicle to change a tire. I’ve also skinned a moose and a few deer at night using this light. I love a green LED more than a red and here are my reasons. I find green protects you night sight as well at red does, but it gives better definition while working or reading and doesn’t fatigue my eyes as much. The power button is the only bad part of the light. It is easy to activate and I can guarantee you that if it’s in a pocket, it will be activated and be on in your pocket sooner than later. 4 out of 5 starts because of the button but 5 out of 5 in my heart because I love this little handy light. Everyone should have one.
