I grew up in a small town and I am very aware of the busybodies, small-town mentalities, slight unease of outsiders, etc. I gotta say Susan nailed it! The characters are charming, the storyline engaging, and the romance ranges from instant attraction to a sizzling slow-burn to igniting to sexy and fun. I loved Lilly and Ethan together. We get to follow Lilly as she struggles with herself and her thoughts (of right and wrong) related to her job, her feelings of her own self-worth as well as relationships and interaction with others, and her feelings for Ethan. She had amazing inner strength and was well-grounded thanks to her wonderful family. Her relationship with her dad was awesome. As for Ethan- we get a glimpse of why he left the military and the haunting memories that caused his PTSD, along with his daily struggles – especially when it comes to a relationship with Lilly, seeing the town through his eyes as he introduces Lilly around, and his bond with his brother and his team. He was just an all-around wonderful guy. This book is full of laughs, friendship and strong bonds, family, quirky townsfolk, a four-legged friend, steamy bits, chemistry, and romance. In this series, author Susan Stoker takes a step away from her hunky active duty Special Forces/ Ops men and creates a world for a Search and Rescue team in small town Fallport, Virginia. Yet, it isn't too big a jump from her active duty characters as the seven men of Eagle Point SAR all have Special Forces backgrounds. Susan Stoker has a talent for creating sexy alpha male heroes that take your breath away, not only because of their physical attributes but their kindness and caring demeanor. Yet, every one of Susan Stoker's men have broken souls that need mending. This is true with the men of Eagle Point. Their reasons for leaving the military vary but each of them are in Fallport to heal. Susan demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of disabilities of body, mind, and spirit, veterans suffer with. Which for this ex-army nurse whose spouse is a disabled Special Forces veteran,puts her on my MUST READ bookshelf. From the three old men playing chess in front of the post office every day to a bloodhound who never passes up a chance to nap, the people (&dog) will capture your heart.
