A #1 desertcart Charts bestseller and Prime Reading's most read book of 2018. In this multimillion-copy bestselling series from #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh, former prosecutor Morgan Dane faces the most personalโand deadlyโcase of her lifetime. After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she's finally found peace and a promising career opportunityโuntil her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder. Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can't believe he's guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight. Review: What can I say, this book is a 100 (A+) - I loved this book. It was a thriller from beginning to end. Since it is Book 1 of the Morgan Dane series, if it gets better, or more thrilling, from here I won't be able to read them at night. As I told Mollie, my granddaughter, who sent me a text yesterday (5/15/17) telling me the paper she wrote for English (and which I edited) netted her a 100, I love it when a teacher recognizes a perfect paper when she reads one. This is a 100 book. Morgan Dane is an attorney who has had a stellar career as a deputy prosecutor. She and her husband, a military man stationed in Iraq, have three young daughters. Then, Morgan finds herself a widow responsible for raising her three young girls alone, Struggling to cope, she returns home and moves into the house with her father. She has finally decided it is time to go back to work and has agreed to work in the local prosecuting attorney's office. Then the young girl who occasionally babysits for her is found dead and their neighbor, Nick, the teenaged boy who plays chess with her dad and reads bedtime stories to her girls, is accused of the murder. Since Nick and his father don't have the money to hire a competent attorney, they ask Morgan to represent him. She realizes this is the other side of the "legal aisle" from the job she just said she would accept, but she feels compelled to do it. This story has it all. A crazy killer, a young murder victim, whose last words to the grandparents who have raised her since her parents died were angry words, a young boy who lives with his father and helps with his dad's landscaping business, and who has never shown any criminal tendencies, but is now accused of murder, a missing teenaged girl, and a private detective hired to look for a missing teenager - there are connections between the missing girl, the dead girl, and the former prosecuting attorney who is now considering representing the accused murderer. Melinda Leigh is great at writing thrillers with a touch of romance. If you like mysteries, you'll love this book. If you like a human-interest story with a touch of romance, you'll love this book. If you like reading, you'll love this book. I can't recommend it highly enough. Review: Twisty tale with good characterization - What a great start to a new series by Melinda Leigh! Say Youโre Sorry features attorney Morgan Dane who has returned to her home town of Scarlet Falls, New York after the death of her husband in Iraq. Living with her grandfather and her three young daughters, sheโs finally decided to go back to work. However, her previous babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son who is accused of the murder. Morgan asks her childhood friend Lance Kruger to help with the investigation so they can identify the real killer. Morgan is a former prosecutor who is often underestimated by others. Sheโs independent, compassionate, and understanding. Kance is an ex-police officer turned private investigator after an on-the-job injury. Heโs intense, courageous, and is his motherโs caregiver. Readers also get insight into a killer This novel is part investigation, part family drama, and part crime thriller with a little romance. The storyline is engaging, suspenseful, and includes some very tense scenes. The first chapter pulled me into the tale quickly and kept me rapidly turning the pages all the way to its conclusion. This engrossing novel keeps you on the edge of your seat as the race is on to find the killer. As always, the world-building is great. The author has weaved another installment involving family, relationships, trauma, a slow-burn romance, murder, lies, violence, missing persons, and much more. Overall, this book has twists, a little tension, and relatable main and secondary characters. If you are expecting a solid series that will have mysteries, crime, action, and a little romance, then this is a series that I recommend. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I purchased a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date was May 16, 2017.

5 stars - 'Say You're Sorry' by Melinda Leigh
Itโs been a while since I read a book written by Melinda Leigh, and I definitely have regretted it because I adore her books. I dived right into Say Youโre Sorry sometime ago and had a hard time putting it down. I ended up buying it in paperback, so I can enjoy carrying the book around in my purse. It also looks great with the rest of Melinda Leighโs books on my book shelves. Onward to my review of a such a suspenseful book though. ๐ First off, I really love the characters that Melinda writes in her books, especially in Say Youโre Sorry. If youโve ever read a Melinda Leigh book then youโll realize from the beginning that she writes some strong female leads into her stories. The female lead that always knows how to handle herself and that is just one of many reasons why Iโm addicted to Melindaโs books. I always love strong female leads. The female lead in Say Youโre Sorry is definitely one I adored. Morgan Dane is a widow who lost her husband overseas in the military. Sheโs living with her grandfather with her three little ones trying to get her life back together. Sheโs definitely doing an amazing job at it. Sheโs moving on to big things on working with the District Attorneyโs office. Although, life is about to be turned upside down, when her babysitter is killed in Scarlett Falls and the boyfriend/Morganโs neighbor is accused of the girlsโ murder. Itโs up to Morgan to prove his innocence. She has the help of her friend, Lance Kruger who happens to be a private investigator to help her along the way. Melinda Leigh brought on the suspense in this story, which made it hard to put down. I wanted to follow along with Morgan and Lance and uncover who was actually behind the murder. It was great to read the different POVs in the story and I really enjoyed getting to follow along with Morgan, Lance, the boyfriend/neighbor Nick, and even the killer (who I couldnโt figure out who he/she was). Melinda Leigh definitely kept me guessing on who was behind it all. I loved Lanceโs character because he truly was a gentleman trying so hard to keep his feelings over Morgan under bay. Poor guy. He was definitely in love with her. Morgan though is grieving still and she realizes it in the story what she needs to do. The ending had me in tears because of what she finally got the courage to to do, which made it where she finally decided on her next steps. Overall, this was an amazing book and I really wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I look forward to making time to read the second book in the series before the third one comes out next year. Iโm cracking down and finally making time to catch up on the books Iโve had on my to read list for a while now. Iโm also happy to read one of my favorite authors books and finally catch up, so I can keep up with every book she comes up with. ๐

A good if somewhat slow start to a new series
I thought this was a pretty entertaining read. The plot did drag a little bit as there wasn't too much happening at different times, but I still enjoyed it enough to get through it pretty easily. Morgan has returned to her hometown with her three young girls after her husband was killed while on active duty in Iraq two years earlier. She settles into life in her grandfather's neighbourhood when Tessa, the girl next door that everyone liked, is found murdered. Morgan finds the body when Tessa's grandmother calls her to check if Tessa was babysitting that night. With the help of her friend Lance, a private investigator, Morgan gives up her newly accepted job as assistant DA and becomes the town villain when she decides to defend her neighbour, Nick, who is accused of the crime. A shoddy investigation has been undertaken by the authorities due to an upcoming election and Morgan believes he is innocent, even though the town is ready to draw and quarter him in the town square. While the book set an okay pace, there wasn't a lot going on in terms of the crime and building the tension. There was a solid number of suspects up to the end, which was good, but a bit more depth and history into the characters would have been a positive for the plot. This book is a romantic thriller/mystery, but if you're purchasing it because of the romance side of things, you might be a bit disappointed. Lance and Morgan dated briefly in high school and their attraction for each other is definitely there, but there was more pining for each other rather than any relationship happening beyond friendship. I hope this is developed in future books as things were finally moving as the book wound up. There wasn't a lot of tension - more each main character reflecting that they are attracted to and like each other but that the timing was wrong and they weren't in the right place. I thought Morgan was a likeable character. We see her struggling with being a widow while trying to get out of her funk and get her life back on track. Lance was pretty yummy, but his constant 'I like her but can't pursue anything at this time in my life' became a bit old after a while. The mystery itself wasn't anything groundbreaking, but I liked how the author offered a variety of point of view from different characters, including the killer's and Nick's. As a said above, some parts were a bit cliche, e.g. Nick's day to day worries in prison. There were some abbreviations I would have appreciated being elaborated on as I don't speak DA lingo. Some of the lines, e.g. Morgan's reference to her ovaries when Lance is around, were a bit repetitive. I also liked how all of the ends were tied up neatly enough to give the reader satisfaction. Overall, it was a decent read. I'll read the next book in the series if it's a good price :)

Joining forces with the private investigator
This is book one in the Morgan series. They can be read out of order and each book is a standalone. Morgan, Lance, and Sharp are characters found in all these books. There personal lives are a side story that adds depth to these detectives lives. There are many elements that compromised this story: it was an election year and the police chief was quick to announce the suspect, once the investigation got started a slew of other secrets unraveled in the wake of Tessaโs murder, Morgan and Lance were working as private investigators instead of their prior jobs. I liked how Morgan was able to balance her life as a defense attorney and mother. After grieving the loss of her husband, Morgan puts on a happy face every night for her girls. Morgan and Lance did conduct a thorough investigation, yet the process lacked the edgy excitement I look for in a crime book. Narrator: Cris Dukehart narrated the entire story. She did a fantastic job voicing all the characters. She not only read the words word perfectly, but she performed them with the correct tone given the circumstances. Overall: The story was mediocre. Had it not been for the audiobook sync with the ebook I would have struggled to finish reading it myself. It just didnโt grab ahold of me in an exciting way that most crime novels do. This book had all the typical procedures and methods for investigating a crime, yet it missed the thrilling aspect. Even with all the mini plots and side stories I still felt like the story was lacking.

Great storytelling. Keeps you attention till the end
Fantastic author. Grabs your attention till the end. My husband and I read them out of order but it didnโt matter. Hard to put down. Going to finish this series and try another one written by her.

Enjoyable!
Well, except for all the bad stuff that takes place in the story. But seriously, it was good. Things moved along quickly and steadily, I never once experienced the urge to put the book ( okay, device, since I was alternating between a phone and a Kindle) down in disgust or disbelief. ( You know, when you're practically screaming "No--wait, don't go down to the basement!!!" or "wait for backup!" but the characters just don't listen.) I enjoyed this book and will definitely look for book 2. My recommendation is you should give it a try.

Fantastic!
Say You're Sorry is book one of Morgan Dane series by Melinda Leigh. Morgan Dan who came home to Scarlet Falls after the death of her husband and through everything was moving forward after accepting a job with the local prosecutor's office. However, that was not the case when one night Morgan Dane received a call that will change her dreams and her life forever. Morgan Dane accepts to defend her neighbour's son for the murder of his girlfriend. Lance Kruger became involved when Morgan Dane asked him to help with the case. The readers of Say You're Sorry will go on a rollercoaster ride with Morgan and Lance to find who killed Tessa. Say You're Sorry is the first book I have read of Melinda Leigh and I did enjoy reading it. Melinda Leigh has created a great female hero in Morgan Dan. I like the way, Melinda Leigh portrayed her characters and intertwined then throughout Say You're Sorry. I love the twist and turns that Melinda Leigh provided her readers throughout Say You're Sorry. The readers of Say You're Sorry you will learn about being a defence. Attorney. Also, the readers of Say You're Sorry will understand the consequences of framing someone for something they did not do. Say You're Sorry also highlights the problems that acrophobia causes for everyone involved. I recommend this book.

First Class Read - Absolute Page Turner
Story line was superb as were the characters, a tough tale of teenagers being abused by their peer group & adults. The Sharp Agency link up with ex cop Lance & ex Prosecutor Morgan was superb. All the characters were extremely well interlaced with the story line & kept me enthralled to the last page. Great writing Melinda ๐๐
