Incredibly fabulous replacement for 12AX7 in a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe!
Excellent packing for shipment and price. Used this 12AY7 to replace a microphonic 12AX7 in the V1 position of my USA Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Tames the clean channel so you can turn the volume up above 2. Now, the loudness of "2" is around "4-5" on the dial. Yes folks, you can now use your HRD indoors without hearing loss!

Works great!
Put this in the volume position on my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Wish I di it years ago, the volume can now go to 5,6, and 7 without blowing the windows out. Not sure why Fender does not put this type in the volume from the factory.

Fair price and good quality
The valve is not noisy and it is great to tame my Fender Blues Deluxe (non reissue)

Compared to the Electro Harmonix 12AY7 this be has a bit less gain- which is what I was looking for. Also it is somewhat less “sharp” sounding than the EXH. I assume EQ would get them almost identical.

A great way to tame a gainy amp
A great way to tame a gainy amp. I put one in v1 in my blues deluxe reissue. Mellowed the spikes and helped the eq . They used these a lot in early days of the tweed, then the mid sixties got HEAVY.

Arrived ok
Replacement for 4 month old warm audio 251tube mic tube failure of same brand . No visible sign of failure on old/new mic tube … so go figure . New one sounds appropriate. Lame I had to replace a tube that should’ve lasted like 20 thousand hours ? High rated tubes , caveat emptor . Not that cheap … btw reference it sounded like a low popping humming tremolo feedback and a distorted hole in the sound and loss of volume … fyi for symptoms . … and despite being shippied in a flimsy box amd those white amazon envelops with no padding it survived breaking . Amazon is often notorious for not be insightful about fragile items and protection that is basic and expected . But it come to me fast . And it worked ok , but nothin too special like an old tube but decent . Amd probably your best modern choice ….
