I’ve had success with other brands in the past, but the ezEX48 plugs have a piece of plastic that must be cut off during termination. If it isn’t done correctly, the connector won’t seat properly in a device or patch panel, which can cause poor connections. This tool takes care of that step. while crimping it cuts the plastic precisely and trims the excess wire at the same time. The result is a clean, reliable termination. The tool itself feels very robust, slightly heavier than other crimpers I’ve used, but still comfortable and easy to operate.The included EXO-EX die works with ezEX48 and ezEX44 plugs and for wire up to 22AWG. I’ve also had some success terminating a few other brand plugs with it, though it’s not completely universal. Keep in mind, the Platinum connectors cost more than most other options therefore not carried by most local retailers, so you may not want to dispose of your other crimp tools just yet. If you’re in a bind and grab connectors from a hardware store, they may not be compatible with this tool. That said, if your project specifies Platinum ezEX connectors, this crimp tool is the only way to go. It’s more expensive, but it delivers the precision those plugs require.
