I put the shorter one in when I want to be sitting in the water and the taller one in when I only want to get my feet wet. There are holes so the legs fill with water and drain back out keeping them from floating around too much. Easy to assemble and join the benches together, but I was moving mine a lot trying to level the ground under them and retesting, and all the jostling loosens up the plastic bolts which keep falling out.
