โVitally important, devastatingly thorough, and shockingly revealingโฆ. After reading Primetime Propaganda , youโll never watch TV the same way again.โ โMark Levin Movie critic Michael Medved calls Ben Shapiro, โOne of our most refreshing and insightful voices on the popular culture, as well as a conscience for his much-maligned generation.โ With Primetime Propaganda, the syndicated columnist and bestselling author of Brainwashed, Porn Generation , and Project President tells the shocking true story of how the most powerful medium of mass communication in human history became a vehicle for spreading the radical agenda of the left side of the political spectrum. Similar to what Bernard Goldbergโs Bias and A Slobbering Love Affair did for the liberal news machine, Shapiroโs Primetime Propaganda is an essential exposรฉ of corrupting media bias, pulling back the curtain on widespread and unrepentant abuses of the Hollywood entertainment industry. Review: I have always said that TV and the entertainment industry in general including Hollywood are what I have called โthe great Left - The Liberal Propaganda of the Left and the Control of Hollywood and Your TV. I have always said that TV and the entertainment industry in general including Hollywood are what I have called โthe great Left wing propaganda machineโ in which people and events are often portrayed as being the opposite to what they really are. Good and hard working middle class people who live by decent Conservative principles and who prosper as a result of their endeavours through the jealousy of Liberal thought are usually portrayed as being heartless and ruthless ogres who are enemies of society. On the other hand lower and baser types who as a result of leading a footloose and degraded lifestyle occupy the lower levels of society are portrayed as victims and are elevated to near sainthood. In this meticulously detailed and researched book Ben Shapiro calls on his own empirical experience in Hollywood when as a Conservative film script writer he was informed by his agent that, โYour political views will make it impossible for you to get a job in this townโ. He was also told that he will be excluded from Hollywood social circles and Hollywood is a very โsocialโ town. He informs us that, โThe book makes a case that Hollywood content isnโt merely or accidentally leftist, but is consciously designed by liberal creators and executives to convert Americans to their political causeโ and that this was designed to โ....set America sliding down the slippery slope away from its Judeo-Christian heritage....โ. As far back as 1944 the Conservative film legend Robert Taylor helped to form the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals due to his alarm concerning the Liberal Communist activities of certain actors in the Screen Actorโs Guild and he warned that there were some very โun-Americanโ films being made in Hollywood. He also appeared as a witness before the House Committee on Un-American Activities. Walt Disney was a Conservative Republican and was an associate of Joseph McCarthy and worked with J. Edgar Hoover as a secret informant for the FBI against Liberal Communists in Hollywood. Actress Bo Derik has said that, โActors in Hollywood are ostracised and denied work if they openly support the Republican Partyโ. Because she is a Conservative and supports the Republican Party she was told in the year 2000 that she will never work again in Hollywood. She also said that Liberals in Hollywood often became violent and nasty when they discover that you are a Conservative. From its very inception Liberal Communism set out to gain total control and ownership of the print and electronic media and entertainment industries in order to constantly saturate our minds and those of our families with a steady and uninterrupted flow of Liberal propaganda and Ben Shapiro tells his readers that, โYouโve been targeted by generations of television creators and programmers for political conversion. Youโll find out that the box in your living room has been invading your mind, subtly shaping your opinions, pushing you to certain sociopolitical conclusions for yearsโ. These select few who run the media get into your living room through your TV for year upon year and they saturate your home and family with Liberal ideas until they become a constant and total part of your very existence and as Ben Shapiro tells us in this excellent book this situation must be improved. Seeing behind the matrix
This is a remarkable book and the story of how it came to be written is telling. The author had to pose as a Jewish liberal in order to get Hollywood insiders to brag about their manipulation of the American viewing public. This bias is something I have long suspected, which may be why I stopped regularly watching TV 15 years ago. To see the creators of TV shows arrogantly talk about how they successfully propagandized generations of Americans to the liberal way of thinking is alarming. It isn't just that they are intolerant of people with opposing views, they don't even know (or even want to know) what those views are. They surround themselves with like minded people and black list anyone suspected of not being part of their progressive movement. To them, whatever it is that they believe is unalloyed good. Opposing views (i.e. anyone who disagrees with them) are wrong and possibly evil. They therefore have a moral obligation to inculcate their beliefs into the public, starting when they are just children. Failing to understand opposing views, they create straw men to represent opposition. These straw men they ridicule and belittle in the guise of entertainment. These limousine liberals utterly lack self-awareness. They embody the ultimate in greed: not satisfied with just being fabulously wealthy, famous, and powerful, they also demand to be seen as "good". They congratulate themselves and each other for their good works. They are in fact enemies of the people. I suspect historians, many decades from now, will compare this to the McCarthy era.

An education and worth the read
If you've ever found yourself totally frustrated by one of your favorite shows or characters on TV characterizing something or somebody you believe in in a grossly unfavorable way, you'll be glad to read this book. He explains the business side of Hollywood (how shows come to be, get financed, etc) which I've never actually known before and which is enlightening and fascinating, but more than that he gives enough direct quotes to get inside the heads of those in charge of what we see and hear, to figure out why TV is what it is. To put it simply, "Hollywood" doesn't think the way mainstream America thinks - and not only are they glad of that, they would love to be the "change-agents" who cause you to think differently than you do. They see themselves as good, righteous even, and needing to promote their morality so the rest of us will become better, maybe even righteous too. If we understand that it will transform our viewing experience. There were some points that were belabored excessively, and the ending (what we can do to get TV back to pure entertainment without moral agendas) was not explored enough. But it is worth the read. For some really good insight into the mindset of Hollywood's movers and shakers, and what they consider good and moral, go on YouTube and view Ben Shapiro's interview segments posted there (that are the background for this book).

Eye opening
Ben Shapiro intelligently demonstrates how liberals took over the television industry but he also shows how conservatives can win it back. There is room for both sides on tv and the best shows entertain not preach. He also gives the reader a look into the history of television, which I found fascinating. Ben is objective about this subject and hopes Hollywood doesn't take his book as a criticism but instead as a guide. Ben calls out both the liberals and conservatives on their approach to tv and hopes this will stir them into considering the audience as a whole instead of catering to a select few. I highly recommend this. It is eye opening!

Great for professionals and those tempted by TV in general
I have started my career on television in the last year of communism in my country, I was inside television as political changes took place and witnessed from within how liberalism, well paid by sponsors overtook the air. 21 years ago there was one TV channel, nowadays the local TV stations are over 100. To me from a professional point of view the book is extremely interesting, it gives understanding of key process that took place in the history of leading TV programmes of the world - the American ones. This book is great for anyone who wishes to understand in depth the development of television. I don't always agree with the author as some processes in the development of TV are unavoidable. Conservative TV was doomed to vanish in the past just as typical families. I am still a journalist and an editor and from editorial point of view I admit the author has balanced all possible angles of views. The book is exciting and gives, it is written in rather popular language and is a great source of information for anyone, tempted to know more about of the core processes in development of television.

good read
Wow! I can never watch tv in the same way again! I, just like Ben says, am a conservative that likes to watch tv and am not willing to give it up. I know my kids will watch tv with their peers behind my back if I don't let them watch it...this book is the perfect precursor to being able to watch more mature tv shows. I had my 14 year old read this and now he is aware of how liberals trying to brainwash us while we are relaxing. It will not stop him from watching tv but he is now able to articulate what he is seeing as an onslaught of liberal hogwash mixed in feel good entertainment. So he is now less likely to be led astray to this, but still be able to watch tv with his peers. We also read the Tripod trilogy and the series start with the aliens beating mankind by using tv...made for a good timing with this book!

Medienverstรคndnis verbessern

A young contemperery conservative's humerous and insightful fightback against a perceived Leftist domination of pop culture.
Interesting amusing read, short chapters dived by the TV shows he's speaking about at a given time. Includes and extensive index and undercover interviews with Hollywood producers. If you Disagree with the preise hol your views up to Mr Shapiro's arguments, it will leave you stronger or smarter and wiser.

One of Shapiro's best books
I have to admit to being a big Ben Shapiro fan and have read a number of his books. This title is one of the best. In Primetime Propaganda, he traces the history of television story writing and the reader sees just how manipulative the industry has been. In gathering his material directly from the writers and producers Shapiro "fools" many in the industry to betray their true views about why they lean left and why they create the types of TV shows they do. It's a frightening expose of an industry that has a powerful influence on anyone with a TV set. Highly recommended

Reveals the Bias in Hollywood
Interesting book, Ben Shapiro is always on-point and direct. Shows the vast depth of Hollywood leftist bias that exists, and allows you to become aware of this and see the effect of media pushing certain morals. Well-written, although it feels haphazard at times, but that might be the nature of the topic.
