What was supposed to be released back in September, was delayed two or three times. Don’t know the reason for the delays, be it the amount of orders for it was too much, or the Pop wasn’t done right, or whatever. The point is that the VHS Kuzco has finally arrived and I am happy to have it. I saw this film back in theaters when I was in high school. It had very little fanfare because the time of Disney’s “classic return” from the 90’s mega classic films. THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE was the start of the modern take of Disney with witty humor and sarcasm for the adults to enjoy, but also still be great for kids. I remember going to see it a weekend with my parents and no one was at the theater and we all busted up laughing. All the characters are great and thank the heavens for possibly the greatest Disney creation of all time, Kronk. So I had to have this beauty of a Funko POP because…what the heck. As you can see, this is based around the cover design of the original VHS cover, or around the original DVD cover, seeing as Emperor’s New Groove came out in 2000. I am happy to see this Kuzco Pop is extremely close to his cover depiction, arguably the most accurate Pop for the VHS collection yet. The closest ones are Jack Skellington from THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, Stitch from LILO & STITCH, and Goofy from A GOOFY MOVIE, though they are a bit different. All the others VHS Pops have very different figures from their cover art. So a big kudos to Funko for cover accurate Pop. What I appreciate from the Funko Pop itself is the proper visual and symmetrical alignment it came in. it’s perfectly centered from the picture and from my own figure. Something I dislike about most of the VHS line is the Pops are usually never placed in the proper spot Funko visualizes them to be. My Jack Skellington figure I did a review for has it where he’s a bit off from what Funko advertised, and he’s not quite what I see look proper from my eye view. Kuzco is actually dead center of the box and it looks great! He’s not too far left or too far right. In fact, he’s perfectly proportioned that he covers his VHS cover self and his design fits just under the title card. He just looks great symmetrically! The only question I have is how big Kuzco is. If you look at the pictures desertcart/Funko have for the design, Kuzco is smaller, as to not completely cover up his cover photo. I sort of like it when the Pop isn’t too big as you can see the cover and the Pop reasonably well. Interesting enough, Kuzco completely covers his VHS self. Sort of a bummer, but Kuzco’s Pop still visually and symmetrically works so great I have no problem with it, merely question it. I do wonder if the Pop was delayed to increase the size? Because he looked much smaller when it was first announced. So THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE VHS FUNKO POP is pretty darn excellent in my opinion for being visually and symmetrically pleasing on the eyes with the box and frame. I like my Jack and a few other VHS covers, but not quite up to the same level as Kuzco for being “properly” designed. A big kudos to Funko for this one.
