Interesting low cost kit but components and instructions lack in many areas

Bravo for the price point! There is no reason Robot kits need to be priced over $50. You have proved this. We just need some different parts and better on-line instructions and this kit could have great promise.I teach robotics at a local CoderDojo chapter in Minnesota. We have been building similar kits for about three years and ordering and building our own parts. I gave this kit a 3 out of 5 stars because it does have a vision of a low-cost teaching robot kit. However, it fails in several areas. The biggest problem was that we had to rearrange all the parts so that the USB cable was accessible. The way the video described assembly, the battery pack blocked the connector. In the end, we could use the chassis, wheels, motors, ping sensor, servo and some of the mounting hardware from this kit for our class, but used a much smaller Arduino Nano on a breadboard with a smaller motor L293D-based controller for our students (see photo). The motor controller shield is overkill for this project. It is designed to control 4 motors and the kit only comes with two motors. The lack of a breadboard in the kit is also a limitation. We also don't use Arduino shields. They are big, bulky and inflexible. An Arduino Nano mounted on a 400-tie breadboard is a lot more flexible for adding new sensors and controls. One simple change I recommend is to use a barrel-type power switch that can be mounted in a hole you drill. The kit includes a square-mount power switch but the chassis does not provide a hole for it. Using a sharp knife to cut a square hole in the chassis is hard for kids and not safe. The jumpers are also too short. We use 20cm male-female jumpers in our designs. The attached photo is a similar version, using many of the same parts but without the servo on the front. The parts are about $25 and include a USB connector. The one plus for this kit is the mounting for the ping sensor and servo are nice. Easier than building our own with a 3D printer.I would also suggest using a gitbook for the documentation, sample programs and instructor's guides. You can google "CoderDojo Robots" for examples of these.I hope the team from UCTRONICS continues to build low-cost robot kits but improves the components, flexibility and quality of instructions. The price point is right - we just need some additional polish on the components used and documentation. I hope the offer a kit with an Arduino Nano, a breadboard and a smaller motor controller in the future. Keep at it!

Good price and works

The media could not be loaded. I like these kit, all the parts works, I developed the code for it as you can see in the video works pretty well, the manual's link on the packing list is broken but I contacted the company are they replied with the correct link to the documentation.

Walk away, do not even consider buying this.

This is an absolute WASTE of money. DO NOT BUY. The instructions are horrible. There are few words, and the pictures are impossible to figure out. We have spent hours online trying to find better instructions, but it doesn't look like anyone has them for this brand. Plenty for similar robot cars from other vendors, but nothing I can use to complete this.

something I am not good with. The car works but won't back up ...

It works partially. Had to solder some parts, something I am not good with. The car works but won't back up or move as indicated. They just came out with a new version so maybe this is fixed.Update, new one does not work on carpet. The motors need more power. or need to be more powerful. ,This is good for someone who wants to be frustrated.,,Update, Been working with this for awhile now, Motors don't seem to work, either motors not big enough or not getting the power they need. I loaned it to a friend and asked him to look at it, wouldn't work on rug, did not work as on the video on a bare flat service. Be careful about this item.

Fun little Robot Car kit

This is a nice little robot car, while the instructions are not as clear as one would expect it wasn't very difficult to figure out. After playing around with it for a little while the motors cannot handle running into things very well so it would be nice to have bumpers added to it to stop if it does run into anything.

For advanced beginner :)

Well, not very good kit for very beginner. Because arduino board can't be normally fixed in chassis in predrilled holes. Need to invent something. Wire jumpers are way short. Need little soldering. Would be better if it is without soldering, since it is beginner kit. Jumpers are Female-Female, and you need male to connect to motor shield. Instruction is poor. Pictures are not always clear how to assemble and connect wires.Good is that everything works, and program works somehow, although by a bit strange logic.Well this kit can work for advanced beginner :) who doesn't hesitate to think himself and find some decisions if instruction doesn't work.

Pure garbage! Waste of money for noobs

Junk, not for kids. Need tons of Coding experience to get to work. Non existing instructions and support. Pure garbage! Waste of money for noobs.

Better get your parts elsewhere and build yourself

Not clear instructions and did not work to expectations. Better get your parts elsewhere and build yourself!
