Every Dog: A Book of Over 450 Breeds packs in a lot of information. Illustrations, text, charts, tables and icons make it an ideal reference for all dog lovers, who will enjoy flipping through the pages. The over 450 breeds are thoroughly researched and represent canines from around the world. They range from rare breeds for the dog lover that wants something different, to the favorite breeds that make for a reliable choice. There are ancient breeds and modern breeds, including the "designer dogs" that have become so popular in recent years. The over 450 breeds are organized into various categories, such as type (which share loosely common ancestry and traits), purpose, and more. For example, Spitz-Type Dogs typically have thick and dense fur, pointed ears and muzzles, and puffy tails that curl up and over their rears. They descend from ancient breeds that came from Arctic regions. Spitz dogs include the Akita, Canaan, American Eskimo, and the Pomeranian. Each breed is described on one page and includes these details: English and any alternative names, place of origin and year of first known introduction Icons and keys indicating all available coat colors; exercise requirements; graph indicating average weight, height and life expectancies At a Glance chart rating Intelligence; Ease of training; Affection; Playfulness; Good guard dogs; Good with children; Good with other dogs; and Grooming required. Descriptive text and a brief history of the breed Two color photographs, one adult and one puppy. Every Dog: A Book of Over 450 Breeds is a fabulous reference. Everyone Will Like This
This book has excellent photos, dog descriptions and histories. It is easy to read and gives you a good idea of what the average specimen of a breed will be like. As I have been around many breeds throughout my life I believe the information compiled in this book to be extremely accurate. Some of the entries and classifications are a bit different than what you would find in a book that is more in accordance with the American Kennel Club (AKC) but this book has at least 450 different breeds in it while the AKC only has 193 dog breeds.

Great guide.
This book is very well written and informative. There is a double page spread for each breed of dog with clear photographs and excellent information. It rates the different breeds in categories such as good with children, good with other dogs, amount of exercise, ease of training, etc. My daughter absolutely loved this book and said it was the best present ever.

Shows breeds you never knew existed!
The "450 breeds" had me intrigued, as there are only 213 UK Kennel Club recognised breeds to date. I like to think I am a bit of an aficionado on dog breeds, having been raised by parents who had a big dog breeding/training/boarding/security business, but I was really surprised to find quite a number of dogs breeds I had never heard of. Each breed page shows a range of info about it as well as health and interesting history facts, which I will find it invaluable for my work of needle felting breeds of dog. You can see my work on FB, Instagram and .com as "ChicktinCreations." I can only think of one little negative and that is, although most of the breeds were shown standing and side-on, I wish all photos of the breeds were shown standing and side-on, so you could see their body shape much better for reference. Not easy to see the shape of a dog when sitting or laying down. That said, I am really pleased to have this lovely book in my reference section now and will be regularly used for my work and will be highly recommending it to others.
