I will try again for a bit longer period some time. They were still very edible for the most part and the natural flavor was a tad bit stronger than the oil fried. The oil fried are IMHO the best way to cook these for appearance and texture. These are great to have on hand, especially if you have unexpected company often or live far from a store or don't have a lot of money to waste. They literally last forever uncooked if kept dry and in a cool dark cupboard. And you can't beat the price. They are very weird but delightful little things both before and after cooking. Before cooking they are fairly transparent, very thin discs that are colorful, about the size of half-dollars and blossom into large pastel cup looking things that are very crispy and ready to eat in seconds after being placed into hot oil. I use coconut oil to cook them and the oil needs to be VERY hot for them to cook within those few seconds after submersion. They are called shrimp crackers but there's very little aroma or taste of shrimp and resemble nothing at all like crackers! That said, if you are looking for an interesting snack, give these consideration. Hopefully you won't be disappointed!
