Tascam AK-BT1 Bluetooth Adaptor

Connects easily, and via bluetooth only introduces about a second of lag, which for something like this, is actually quite good. So, it does make it usable on your phone or tablet.

Purchased for the Portacapture X8 - worked as advertised. Using the phone app is easy, just like using the touch screen.

I have seen a lot of criticism about this product and it’s understandable but I think it’s important to look at the things it does right. First, the app is a cool addition to this recorder and Bluetooth connects well to it. I am sure that are some people who might find some fault in the range but for me it’s not an issue. In honesty, I just wanted to be able to begin, end and monitor recordings without hearing it on my final cuts (could be done afterward but just a preference). The product claim are substantiated, it connects, in my experience it stays connected and it offers a versatility to being able to use the X8. How the adapter functions is not the issue for the three stars it earns so if you are just reading to see if it does the job, it totally does. Now for a few of the drawbacks. I have read a few reviews about how it fits into the device and I agree it could be a tighter fit that was flush so that there was no fear of bumping or losing it. The cover that needs to be removed should have served as the model of what was expected. It has a blue light to show it’s connected and some have been irritated at this as they may be using it for some reason that the light becomes a distraction. I have seen where some people suggested covering the device with tape which can serve to tighten the fit and cover the light but that shouldn’t be necessary. Additionally, this “extra” should have just been built into the device in the first place. It was a missed opportunity to have something that was all-inclusive and comes across as a bit of a cash grab for the device. If this was $50 for the X8, I think I could have overlooked it but given the prosumer price tag, it is disappointing and ultimately unnecessary. Overall, the product acts as it was intended and that is essentially all one can ask for since the decision to need such an adapter was a foregone conclusion. If you want something that will allow for your X8 to be more hands free with its operation, this does the job fairly well but the machine can be used without it almost as easily. The fact that it is necessary to buy in the first place may be the biggest complaint of all though.

It’s amazing that I fought buying this for about a year after owning the recorder once I got it my life has really changed. What an amazing little dongle the ability to have the application running on an iPad or a phone while your recorder is just sitting somewhere is awesome. I wish that task cam could come up with a way to add a Bluetooth sound monitoring link so that you could actually hear from a distance when you’re doing field recordings, but outside of that, pick up the dongle and pick up the windscreen if you’re actually going to use the recorder for outside work

Works as described. I just wish it came with the recorder in the first place rather than being a separate purchase.

Great adapter. You can set up Portacapture X8 and operate from your phone without delayed operation.

Tascam must have spent all of 5 minutes designing this BT adapter. It should have been built into the unit in the first place. It would have cost another buck and could be disabled in the menu if not needed. Instead, it's a way to bilk another 40 bucks from the customer. The worst part is how poorly it's designed. Instead of fitting flush with the surface when installed, like the cover for the hole, it sticks out like a sore thumb, waiting to get caught on something and damaging either the adapter or the main PCB. It also does not lock into place, and can be knocked out easily and lost. Then there is the stupid power wasting bright blue LED. Really great for any stealth recording application with it blinking away! The thing works OK, but basic BT is not rocket science. The IOS app is good. The adapter gets an "F" app gets an "A", IMO. Come on Tascam hardware guys, you can do way better than this.

Me parece estupendo poder monitorear y subir o bajar ganancia sin acercarme a la grabadora. Lo que veo un error de Tascam es que no venga internamente incluido y tengas que hacer un gasto extra para tenerlo.

Works as expected, however Tascam should include it at no cost in X6 and X8 units
