Wonderful product. Really impressive. However, I would not apply to log ends. In most cases, you are going to cut-off the bad spots anyway, so applying might be a waste of time & money. I am making round table-tops from a sliced log. Depending on your situation and age of logs, I would refrain from applying the seal too soon. You do not want a bunch of water in your furniture before varnishing. I allowed a few months for moisture content to drop from 53% to15%. As soon as I witnesses the telltale sign of "checking", I belt sanded both sides of the slice. Then applied Loctite PL3 to any underside cracks starting to enlarge. Then I applied Anchor-Seal to bottom of wood only. (The top will receive multi coats of varnish) Which brings me to another word of caution. The seal will affect the color of your finish varnish. Hence the reason I do not recommend using the product first, under your stain. The sealer had a noticeable yellowish tint. Other than that, goes on smooth with a brush. Drying time varies. Would but again.
