Really nice in tea and even in soda! Has the unavoidable smell of valerian root, but that is to be expected. I take about two droppers at a time. It produces a relaxing effect both mentally and physically. Valerian has a mild benzodiazepine-like effect. Works quicker than pills.

Yes, the scent is reminiscent of funky feet, but with sweet undertones, and I actually find it pleasant; heady and calming. For me, the window for falling asleep happens approximately ten minutes after dosing, either one dropperful under the tongue or two dropperfuls in hot tea, and lasts for about ten minutes. If distracted or not already in bed in a darkened room, it probably wont put you to sleep, but it will relax you. Also, I find the essential oil just as effective in an atomizer or rubbed on my wrists. Wonderful herb and a very good price from Now brand. Excellent product.

This stuff taste pretty bad at first but it's worth it when you feel the effects. I have a really hard time falling asleep. I started out taking 2 dropper fulls if this about a year ago. After 6 months I went up to 4 dropper fulls 2 hours before bed. It really helps me switch off my ADHD brain. I take liquid pineapple flavored magnesium with it and 5 mg of liquid melatonin. I try to use it for 3 days and then skip 3 days so my body doesn't get too used to it. Definitely worth it to try!

Decent product for helping with sleep

I have been using Valerian drops for years for sleeplessness and anxiety. Amazon has it at a great price! It has a calming effect that is not too heavily sedating, but eases me back to sleep. I have noticed zero side effects. And it is affordable. I will continue to be a repeat buyer. Jewelbug

I recently bought the NOW Foods Valerian Root Extract as it was avalable on Prime and it was relatively cheap. First thing I noticed was the extract was light in color, tasted quite good and sweet - which is a major red flag. Took 5 times the recommended dosage and it did nothing. If you are looking for strong, effective valerian extract, get the Herb Pharm brand liquid extract. Not available thru Prime, but it is available in 4 ounces and the shipping is quite reasonable. The extract is dark, not pleasant tasing, but from my experience the best and strongest valerian extract on the market. The NOW Foods is watered down, sweetener added crap. Stay away from it and get the herb pharm. 4 ounce size is proabaly cheaper than the 1 and 2 ounce NOW, and immensely more potent. I've been using valerian extract for ages, and the Herb Pharm brand, which is extracted from fresh as opposed to dried root and plant, is the best valerian extract on the market. Hit the menopause years and sleep became very choppy, found a holistic Gyn who put me on bio identical hormones and suggested I try the Valerian root before bed or at times when I was just feeling quite stressed. I tried the ones without alcohol in them and Wow is this every gross! For some reason my one cat is overly interested in the smelly bottle and tries to knock it off the bed side table. That said, the alcohol makes this bearable, I take 3 droppers full every night before bed religiously along with the CALM magnesium drink as a chaser. I also use Ashwaganda and L Theanine, along with about 8 mg of melatonin. Sounds like a lot but I've added these supplements slowly along the way to finally get to the perfect place where I don't need to add or take anything away from my evening line up. I average 7.5 hours of sleep a night where as before these supplements I was getting a choppy 5 to 6 average and not functioning very well during the day.

Valerian Root was one of the first herbal supplements I used. While I don't have issues with sleep, it settles the nerves great. But with the capsules I was always taking lower doses because I wasn't using it for sleep. And sometimes one wasn't enough. I found myself constantly chasing and searching for the right dosage for my evolving needs. Sometimes you want more, sometimes less. Which is hard with capsules that take time to start flowing through the system. Making the switch to an extract was the best choice for my usage. I have complete control of exactly how much I take. Each time I use it, I dial in the feel that much more. Plus you have the added benefit of a more immediate effect when you take it sublingual. In my experiences I've found the NOW Supplements recipe to be of good quality. It smells and tastes like quality Valerian Root and arrives with a solid expiration date. Very satisfied and NOW is now my preferred Valerian Root option.
