Does this attach to the 7010S stand?

Yes, the 7010S stand has a clamp that can grip the 3/8" stem of the indicator. The stem is the machined sleeve below the dial of the indicator where the indicating rod moves in and out.

Can others confirm the shipment came directly from japan (and not china)? i want to confirm this is real japanese mitutoyo and not chinese fake.

I bought this back in 2018 from Amazon being the seller with a cert and it is legit. If you buy it from other seller besides Amazon you do run the risk of buying a counterfeit product unless the seller is a well known distributor. Mitutoyo products are stocked and shipped directly from the seller or Amazon (not from Japan), Starrett products on Amazon are ship from Amazon Prime, if Amazon is the seller or if the seller is a well known distributor and they have an contract shipping through Amazon Prime, or it could be shipped from the seller's warehouse or directly from Starrett with no Prime shipping but with maybe free shipping through your Amazon account. There are legit distributors that do sell on Amazon at a competitive price and it may be "safer" for them to collect the sell from an Amazon account vs somebody creating a new account on their website and risk a lost bogus order that a "customer" created with a stolen credit card or something in that nature.
