I have been trying my best to use and less heat as possible on my hair. As I am used to my weave I love to straighten and curl my hair all the time. My hair stylist recommended I try these to curl with no heat and well you can see the result. I LOVE them. Although I have realized that your hair ( black/nappier/ virgin hair- however you rather say) has to be a little straightened or blow dried for a shorter curl style like mine. I put them on at night cover with my silk cap and take out in the morning. But if my hair has not been straightened/ or blow-dried previously the curls don't seem to stick as well and fall out sooner. Besides that again I LOVE THEM. I definitely suggest watching a Youtube video of how to put these in, I wasn't sure the first time I tried and my fumbling around made it take quite a bit longer than it needed to. I've so far tried in damp hair that was lightly blow dried after a shower and also in totally dry hair for a bout an hour. The first gave me some really lovely curls despite my skills not being up to par, they fell into a more natural look after about 15 mins, I only had them in for about an hour before I took them out so I could take my dogs out and look a little not crazed so my hair was still a bit damp. When I put them in my hair the next time my hair was dry and was 2 days not washed (I only wash my hair 2x a week generally) for about an hour while I got ready for work and it gave me some really nice waves, I used the largest rods for this time.
