Shows how to plan a garden that is attractive during all four seasons, suggests planting schemes, and recommends a variety of useful plants Review: Bloom's Best Book - FABULOUS!! Adrian Bloom's best. Includes several planting diagrams for mini-gardens and some larger gardens, and some extremely helpful plant lists which lists the ultimate size of shrubs. (Pot tags usually give you an estimate of size in ten years. It's good to know that your dwarf Hinoki Cypress that is supposed to be 24 inches high is eventually going to be 10 feet tall so you can plan ahead.) Many hints on caring for specific trees and shrubs. I'd love a more extensive plant list, more planting schemes with real photos instead of sketches, and some idea of spacing within the diagrams. Also: Bloom is based in England, and the heat and possible drought of a New England summer may skew some of his climate recommendations. Also also: many of his specific shrub varieties are not easily available in North America. Review: a timeless book - It is quite an old book but when you compare it with the newer ones on the same topic you will find out it is worth having it. It is packed with useful information that do not get "passรฉ" with time. It shows transformation of a garden in 20 year period - which is a great lesson to learn! The book would deserve better quality of photography (more vibrant colors) - it is due to the fact that it was published in print in 1993. The content of the book is timeless though and I am very happy to have it.

Winter Wonderland
This was a book that I have been wanting for some years, in fact since it was first published in the early 90's .Adrian Bloom was a pioneer of low maintenance ,year round colour gardening including form and evergreen structure BEFORE it became fashionable in some of the larger estates & private gardens and arboretums .This book has great landscape photography ,planting plans ,plant lists and more .Although some of the varieties of plants ,perennials have been replaced with more recent cultivars you can still benefit from Adrians advice .Excellent reading.
