When they are completely charged, the led light will be off. The manufacturer does say to expend as much battery as possible before recharging. Charging the battery when it hasn't been depleted shortens the life of the battery. I contacted them for a replacement (expecting to pay for it). They sent it immediately for no charge, not even shipping. This week, 2-1/2 years after purchase, the keyboard failed.
