Then, if the kiddo shows an interest, go ahead and get one of the higher quality fiddles. You will save a lot of money in case they find out that violin is not for them. The music teacher did say that the bow was kinda crappy, so we bought a better bow ($50) made of real horse hair (I believe) and bought better rosin. Other than that, the case is great, and the other things that came with it, like the chin holder and tuner, is a nice plus. I'm not sure if that's part of the issue or if the violin would have arrived like we received it. There were multiple things wrong: -the strings were put in backwards and unusable once we tried to fix them -we were only given 3 extra strings (not 4) -the bridge was installed incorrectly and would not stay in the correct spot even after multiple times of trying to get it to work -there was a hole in the bag Needless to say, the violin was returned. We were hopeful because it looked like a nice violin and there were other good reviews.
