Why requires 2aa batteries? not making sense with photo.

Can an incandescent C7 bulb be used as a replacement bulb in this set?

( know I did exchange this with another bulb that had come with the original cord but I don't know if it was a C7.

Can one end or the other be removed to shorten the cord to a custom length?

You could purchase a replacement plug, the one that comes on it can't be removed with out damaging it, same with the light end. I did shorten one by removing the shut off switch and splicing the wire inside it, Altho in my opinion it was not worth the time and effort to do so.
