Q: Can these hinges be used with a hollow core door?

I'm not an expert but given the weight of the hinge and the placement, you would have to find a way to mount a block inside the hollow core which seems like it would be a ton of work unless you were building a hollow core door or rebuilding it and had access to mount it to the interior of the door edge.
