Review: The Nipit solved our thumb-sucking problem. It really works! - The Nipit arrived at my home the very next day after ordering it. I was pretty excited to test it out on my 7-year-old. I planned to present it to him before bedtime. I told my son before the hand stopper arrived that I had purchased an item that would help him stop sucking his thumb in his sleep. He could not wait to see what it was. My son hated that he sucked his thumb in his sleep. I tried everything. Putting socks on his hands, the thumb guards, and the nail polish, they all didn’t work. He would take the socks and thumb guard off in his sleep. I guess he could tolerate the taste of the nail polish because it did nothing to help him. My child usually could control himself during the day like most children who suck their thumbs, he has triggers, and before he knew it his thumb was in his mouth. When Nipit arrived, I checked it out thoroughly. It came in a handy reusable outer packaging that you can use for storage and to keep the hand stopper clean. It has bright, fun colors and is surprisingly soft. The Nipit is made well and very durable. It has a padded elbow cushion, velcro flaps, and straps that are adjustable for comfort. I also could tell it made him feel good every time he placed a star. The first night of wearing the Nipit, he was so pleased with himself, he slept through the night without sucking his thumb. During the day, he would request it sometimes because he would have a trigger and wanted to suck his thumb. This good behavior continued throughout the 21 days. I am so proud of him. He was determined to kick this habit. He had a few hiccups along the way, but for the most part, he stuck with it. I rooted for him every step of the way. He is now sleeping without the Nipit and is free of thumb sucking. I didn’t even have to use the childproof easylock system (zip ties). The velcro flaps and straps worked perfectly. Review: This works, but it may take a while, don't lose hope - Summary: If you don't want to read the full review, here is the quick version. My son was an avid thumb sucker and despite my best efforts and every thing I could think of, we couldn't break him of it. We bought this and it didn't seem to work for the first couple week and I thought this was another failed device/attempt. But don't give up, after the first 3-4 weeks, my stubborn son stopped fighting this brace and it started working. We are now 2.5 months after the first night using it, and he is no longer a thumb sucker without needing the brace any longer. This works, but it is not an overnight fix. Just hang in there and if you have tried everything else and nothing has worked for your child, take the risk and give this a try. My son was an avid thumb sucker, like super attached to thumb sucking at night. We had made progress getting him to stop during the day, but when he was tired, the thumb went in his mouth without fail and regardless of anything else we tried. We tried the bad tasting nail polish, rewards, punishments, tape/band-aids, books, literally anything else we could think of before a guard or elbow brace. We bought this as a literal last hope to finally break the habit because we had exhausted everything else. We debated between this or a thumb guard, but we ultimately landed on this because we thought it would be overall more comfortable for wearing overnight. Pros: 1. Our son (4.5yrs old) was not able to remove it himself for a while (and they do provide zip ties to provide further securing if needed). The velcro is strong, so if using on a younger child, they will likely struggle to remove this. 2. It appears to be comfortable. My son never complained that it hurt and it never left any marks or anything on his arm. 3. It does make it difficult for the child to get their fingers to their face, but not impossible. Cons: 1. A determined child can "slide" the brace up or down slightly enough to be able to more comfortably get their thumb in their mouth. This is what our son did for a week or so. I doubt that it was very comfortable though, because he stopped this behavior on his own, and I didn't want to make it tighter for obvious reasons. 2. After 2.5 months of nightly use, it is starting to show some wear around the edges (some slight fraying of the threads/seams/edges/etc.) but so far nothing that would compromise the function of the brace. So far nothing around the velcro straps, but the velcro on the body of the brace has gotten weaker. 3. The price point. I only put this on the con list because this was the main barrier to me buying this sooner than I did. I felt that price was a big risk especially after everything else had failed spectacularly for my son. However, now that I am on the other end and it has worked, it is worth every penny. Overall, this definitely works, but it is not an immediate fix. It took about a month before he stopped fighting it. I had lost hope that this would work. We actually ended up using this combined with the bad tasting nail polish that we had leftover from previous failed attempts (and discussions and rewards). After he stopped fighting it, it was another couple weeks before he started asking to wear it so he wouldn't suck his thumb in his sleep. And finally he was afraid to sleep without it because he thought he would start sucking his thumb again. We are now 2.5 months out from starting this and we've been sleeping without it for a few days and he is still not sucking his thumb. FINALLY!!!

The Nipit arrived at my home the very next day after ordering it. I was pretty excited to test it out on my 7-year-old. I planned to present it to him before bedtime. My son hated that he sucked his thumb in his sleep. I tried everything. Putting socks on his hands, the thumb guards, and the nail polish, they all didn’t work. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shockingly Easy and POSITIVE way to help kid

This worked SO well, I'm honestly in shock. We went from 24/7 sucking to practically done within DAYS and a lot of grins from our kid that was so proud. Background: Our 4-year-old was the most determined thumb-sucker since birth and did it day and night. We waited and waited, doctor said not to worry until 4 since most kids stopped by then, but he was still doing it day and night well past his 4th birthday and had already developed a visible cross-bite. We probably should have started something a year ago, but so many of the other methods felt cruel or punitive. I'm not afraid of some tough-love where necessary, but I prefer gentle parenting when it's an option and it felt like it was especially important to be gentle with something that was such a source of comfort. Using the Product: We were able to make this a super positive experience that actually made him excited to wear it, which was amazing. He wasn't totally on board with why we needed to do it, but once we were able to make it fun he was all on board. We called it his "supercharged robot arm" and he added the fact that it gave him magical powers. When he wears it he can give "supercharged" high fives and hugs that are super powerful. We hammed it up when he gave us high-fives and hugs. We told him he could have as many as he wanted since it might be tough. The first day he was a little whiney, said he really missed his thumb, but I kept reminding him of his new magical powers. We also pretended his thumb and mouth were having a conversation. His mouth told his thumb that it wanted to be healthy and be able to taste the prize ice-cream. He would tell me a lot that his tongue missed his thumb and I told him his thumb said "No way mouth, I want to play!" He thought it was so silly that his mouth and thumb were fighting. This all pretty much stopped after the second day and now two weeks in he just loves showing off his supercharged high-fives to everybody we talk to. He found it comfortable and he was able to play just fine, but we took it off to eat. We just finished up the second week and he's barely wearing it during the day, pretty much just during quiet time when I'm not watching him. We've had test runs during shows and books and he hasn't even tried to suck his thumb. This was so easy and tear-free and I love that I can probably reuse it for little sister that will likely need it too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
