STURDY, SAFE, AND COMFORTABLE SHOWER SEAT AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE
Just had our one piece fiberglass shower stall (2 seater) removed/renovated to a more spacious acrylic 5' shower without built in seat. Since reaching a weight of 250+ pounds, I couldn't bring myself to trust one of those "pull down" wall seats, so I thought the best resolution would be a sturdy seat that could be mobile and utilized only by those who desired showering with such a device. I ruled out teak, flimsy plastic, and metal seats, instead searching for something constructed of something more akin to a "Little Tykes" tubular design. Something impervious to water infiltration, and something substantial that would support a good bit of weight without taking up too much space. I found one corner chair that fit the bill, however the seat was "iffy" in that it did not seem to allow enough space, meaning slipping out of it might be an issue. Then I came upon THIS CAREX SHOWER CHAIR. I liked the material used for construction, including the rubberized individual adjustable height feet/legs that could accommodate each consumer, as well as accommodate a sloping drain pan (if that were an issue). I was also glad to see a listed weight limit of 400 pounds and that it offered ample seating space featuring drainage holes, dual holes on the sides for moving it, and dual side cut-outs for holding a shower spray wand. My husband and I opted to purchase THIS particular CAREX model with the removeable back support, thinking that we had the option of adding that portion later, however we were surprised to discover that our unit DID NOT INCLUDE a slip-in portion to cover the rectangular hole in the back that would then facilitate usage as a "stool" during the interim when we felt perhaps backrest was not yet necessary. (NOTE to manufacturer, please include the cover piece with this model.) It has been over four months since first using this CAREX shower chair. Naturally, it took a while to acclimate to a totally different shower "set-up", however we're adjusting. It is so nice to have the peace of mind of newly installed wall hand grips along with a comfortable and secure seating shower option. No slipping around in this new mildly textured seat with nice sturdy supportive legs, and four stable rubberized secure feet. Following each shower we simply wipe any residual water from the seat and back, then tilt the chair to the side against the wall to enhance water drainage. I did just notice some barely visible "rusty discoloration" forming on the white seating (caused by exposure to our iron laden well water), however this should prove to be an ongoing minor maintenance issue quickly resolved with cleanser and a little "elbow grease". Aside from that, and the "missing hole plug" (to convert this model to MY aesthetic preference - a backless stool), both my husband and I are very pleased with this product thus far.

Easy-to-Assemble, Sturdy All-Plastic Bath Chair
Based on the numerous 5-star reviews of this Carex bath & shower chair plus my own internet and in-store research, I decided to purchase this product, which arrived today. Now I can return to my nice neighbor the shower chair she has let me borrow after I came home from the hospital after major surgery. I am very pleased with this shower chair for the following reasons: 1. Stability & Comfort: This chair is stable and secure and has a textured surface, secure legs and no-slip rubber feet. The side-handle cut-outs are of a generous size, and the grooved construction provides additional safety and reassurance. The handles have a smooth, rounded finish that is comfortable to grip. The optional chair back does not have a smooth, rounded finish and instead has an unfinished, rough plastic edge that is not comfortable to the touch. Very minor, but mentionable in case someone plans to carry the fully-assembled chair from one bathroom to another. 2. Ease of Assembly: My chair arrived knocked down, and I put it together very quickly. The one-sheet instructional assembly diagram is self-explanatory and requires no text โ just large, clear and direct illustrations. It is simple, direct, and easy to follow. Out of curiosity, I set a timer to see how long assembly required, and it took me two and half minutes to connect all 4 legs and the chair back to the bench. Each leg has a small white, round nub near the top, and it snaps into a corresponding circular opening in the bench. The optional back clicks right into the cut-out at the back of the bench. The chair back has two grooved slots that fit over two corresponding plastic slats at the back of the bench. Align the grooves and slats, and press gently to securely attach the back. The very end of the chair back has two sturdy, rectangular plastic tabs that fit into the central opening at the back of the bench. The tabs have built-in, horizontal 2-inch plastic lips that lock the chair back into place. If you attach the back, and then change your mind, you can easily remove it. Turn the chair over. To release the horizontal plastic lips that secure the back, press the ends of both plastic, rectangular tabs toward each other until they touch. I used both hands to do this, but someone with larger hands may be able to use only one. Simply pull the chair back away from the bench. Reattach if you wish. 3. Appearance and Maintenance: I like the crisp, white look and the fact that the chair includes all-plastic materials and no metal parts to rust. Notes: 1. The blue retail box featured on the site was not included, in case someone was expecting this box or depending on any of the information printed on it. I didnโt need the box but am mentioning it since Amazon includes it as one of the images representing this product. 2. The internal width of my bath tub is 24 inches, and the fully-assembled chair fits comfortably in that space with about one inch of wiggle room left on either side of the chair. 3. The packaging was sturdy and well-presented, with no signs of damage or package mishandling. They shipped it in a double carton, which I initially thought was for extra protection, and then I realized that the outer carton was used for shipment because I had ordered two CDs in addition to the shower chair. The inner carton measures approx. 18.5 x 21 x 7 inches and included ample packing materials to cushion the product. This carton was placed into a slightly larger carton, along with the CDs. The double carton was an unplanned benefit, and I was pleased. 4. The bench has 16 die-cut S-shaped perforations to allow water to drain away from the seat. 5. Even without the chair back installed, the shower chair just feels more like a chair than a bench. This is due to the ample front-to-back surface area in addition to the ample side-to-side width typical of a bench. Even though I am of an average female height and build, measuring 5โ5โ and weighing 130 lbs, I feel more secure having the extra room this seat provides. I believe that a person requiring more space would feel well-accommodated and comforted by the ample seating area. 6. I used the openings intended for a shower spray hose to hold a razor and a plastic shampoo comb that has a built-in hook. When the chair back is not installed, the openings at the back of the bench can be used for holding other shower supplies. 7. The price was $29.88, and shipping was free. I saw a shower chair at CVS for $59.99 + tax, and it includes metal parts, which will not wear well. It was an ordinary-looking typical shower chair and did not appear to warrant such a price. I knew that Amazon could do better. Amazonโs delivery was fast and efficient, and the price of the all-plastic chair was great.

SAFETY
You will not believe the quality of this stool.. It is quiet heavy. The feet are soft, not to scratch shower. They unscrew to raise the height. I raised it about 6 in. still very stable. You will like this, I am sure.

Comfortable and stable
For five years I had been using one of the plastic bench seats with adjustable aluminum legs I had previously bought here on Amazon. The experience I had wasn't great and I was looking for something better built. This chair is far superior AND made in the U.S.. It took literally ONE minute to assemble. It's very sturdy - no wobble at all fits (with room to spare) in my 17-1/2" W tub. I don't use them, but it has notched out areas on both sides of the seat for a handheld shower head to rest. The legs are adjustable, but at 5' 4", they were already in a perfect position for me straight out of the box. I'm a fat-bottomed girl and the seat is generous and comfortable. It was a little slippery at first, but has improved since. I do recommend washing the seat initially. I think it may be more slippery to start due to the manufacturing process. If you still find it slippery after that, you could always use it with a handtowel placed over it while showering for extra security. Just wring it out afterwards and hang over the chair back to dry. When leaning against the back, it does have some give to it - not like it's going to break - but there is give. If you don't want to use the back, or want to just try it as a "stool", DON'T put the back in place, because it's pretty much locked in after that. This is a great bath chair and I expect several good years of use. Buy it!

Good Product!
I waited several months to write this review so I could use this chair first and provide my thoughts on this product. The assembly is basic - very easy to assemble. The chair is very stable and sturdy, works well for larger weight persons as it is a solid chair with solid legs. No stool type with aluminum legs that would buckle with weight. This chair could be compared to a heavy duty, thick plastic lawn chair. The seat does get wet from shampoo and soap and sliding does happen. I recommend using a towel or washcloth to sit on to avoid this. This chair is larger than a stool type shower bench. It does take up the entire bathtub. It is not easy to maneuver or turn around either once it is in there. Although it is big, it does fit into a small bathtub and space just fine. If you are a larger weight person I highly recommend this chair.

Wide, stable and comfortable for very large people. Fit well in smaller tub, easily put together too. So far seems like it will last a long time.

EXCELLENT HIGHEST QUALITY
I must use a shower bench due to severe medical conditions effecting my spine and legs. Over the past many years I have always purchased MEDLINE shower chairs and shower benches from WALGREENS every year or so because I did not know other brands even existed. The MEDLINE shower chair and the MEDLINE shower bench never lasted more than a year or so at best and was horribly uncomfortable and slips and slides and even COLLAPSED at times in the shower. The DANGEROUS MEDLINE shower chair and the shower bench almost caused me to have horrible accidents in the shower many many times. I even took my time to go to MEDLINE's company website a few years ago and explained to them the extent of my experience with MEDLINE shower chairs and shower benches and explained how VERY DANGEROUS their shower chairs and shower benches with the metal legs are and why and also explained to them that they really needed to Re-Design for SAFETY asap and that the MEDLINE shower chair and the shower bench could foreseeably cause someone's SEVERE INJURY or DEATH due to the VERY DANGEROUS INSTABILITY of the metal legs. Over the years I saw NO IMPROVEMENT and NO CHANGE in the design of the metal legs for the MEDLINE shower chairs and benches but I continued to purchase a new one every year or so because I needed a shower chair. I knew it was time to purchase a new MEDLINE shower chair or bench when the legs began SLIPPING and COLLAPSING REGULARLY - EVERY TIME I took a shower. Taking a shower was a NIGHTMARE for me because I always felt in DANGER of FALLING from the INSTABILITY of the metal legs with the MEDLINE shower chairs and benches. MANY TIMES I would reach for the back of the MEDLINE shower chair to balance myself in the shower as I was sitting down in the shower chair and the chair would SLIP and SLIDE and knock me off-balance. The metal legs would begin to turn every which way and sometimes COLLAPSED. All I could do was PRAY because I did not know of any other brands. I purchased several MEDLINE shower chairs and shower benches over the past few years because I did not know other brands even existed until recently. I also complained to WALGREENS about the MEDLINE shower chairs and benches and explained all of the above to WALGREENS but of course WALGREEN's corporate executives did NOTHING about it and continue to this day to ONLY OFFER the DANGEROUS MEDLINE shower chairs and benches. _____________________________________________________ I have been using my new CAREX shower chair for quite some time now and feel that I now know enough about the HIGH QUALITY of this CAREX shower chair to write a truthful review. Still like new after all these years
Well made. Made of sturdy plastic, which I prefer to metal which might eventually rust. The thick legs and large seating area is a lot more comfortable and the chair more steady than those thin legged small seating area aluminum shower chairs that I've tried.

Worth it
Very sturdy, easy to out together, and fits in all directions for shower or bath. Easy assembly and disassembly. Very portable. Used it as a back rest for a mini bath right after knee surgery. Now that I can bend my knee, I have it upright and will attach the back rest.
