The manual is confusing. In the installation instructions (on pg. 2) it says transformer rating must be 16 Volt AC, 10 or 15 wattt. But in the troubleshooting area (pg. 4) it says to "test the output of your transformer with a volt meter. Voltage should read 18 - 22 volts AC on the low voltage side of the transformer when chime is NOT playing." "If volt meter reads below 18 volts, replace the transformer." I am using my 18VAC adapter to also power a Nest Hello Doorbell. Everything is working. **Q: Why would it last just over 3 months, then started buzzing and ringing in the middle of the night.** A: Sounds like your transformer may have a problem. Remember, this low voltage, not regular 120v. It also could be a problem with your doorbell. Try changing that first since its a simple and cheap fix. **Q: Is this white plastic cover paintable?** A: Use an adhesive primer whenever spray painting anything especially if it's pliable. The more plastic moves the greater the need for adhesive primer. A ladder was needed but otherwise easy install. I thought the plastic screw anchors were a bit large or the screws were too small but they worked and unlikely the chime will get bumped mounted high in the hallway. One of the donger rods has a foam pad on top of it. It is not mentioned in the instructions so I wasn't sure if it was packing material or needed so I left it in.
