Review: Poor Quality, Poor and Conflicting Directions - I recommend all to stay away from Tile Redi Shower Bases. I was very dissapointed in the product when I recieved it. Not at all what I had anticipated after doing study on the internet and reading the descriptions. I did my homework before purchasing it, but was very disappointed when I looked at the product. First, the product was much more flimsey and thinner than I had anticipated. As this is just made out of very light plastic, it can flex quite a bit. I was very suprised they didn't make it thicker, use more plastic or use a honeycomb base design vs horizontal ribs to add stability and strength. I do not believe that over time the tiles would stay affixed to the base even with the epoxy with all the potential flex. Additionally, I think the the drain portion would not stay embeded in the mortar over time. Secondly, with these larger sized bases, it would take a tremendous amount of mortar to ensure that the base was properly supported into it to have a firm base. I think there is a design flaw that keeps this large unit floating in the mortar bed that is supposed to be "peanut butter consistency"; there are no air escape holes to relieve trapped air or burp it. Third, Tile Redi directions included with the unit were confusing at best and in conflict with their web site. Threads from contractors and other users on the web also share this same issue, frustration and concern. Finally, when I tried to return the item after being dissapointed in the quality, the vendor normally charges a ridiculous 25% restocking fee ($187) and an additional $100 for shipping. This should have been clearly stated in the ordering information which it wasn't.
