For serious developers only, but fills its niche
Just to be clear, the only reason to buy this board is if you are a pretty hard-core developer and want to dig into the latest Android source and run it on officially approved hardware. I got mine loaded up with a custom build of android-8.0.0_r34 (with a single peculiar bug fix to surface flinger), flashed with fastboot, and we are up and running with Oreo. By comparison, the Qualcomm DragonBoard only supports Android 6, with a bunch of extra patches, while the LeMaker HiKey has its whole support setup built into the main source tree.But I should note that this thing is also kind of a pain in the neck, I hate the form factor (same with the DragonBoard) and doesn't come with a huge amount of support, so you kind of have to know what you are doing before you dive right in. And it is pretty darn expensive for a dev kit, so you better have a really good reason for wanting one.In my case, the power supply came with the wrong plug adapter! Fortunately for me the DragonBoard had the right power supply from specs to plug, so I was able to use that instead.

It was pretty straightforward to get Android running on here; it does take several seconds to boot up (or show that it is doing anything) to the point that when I power it on, I still often wonder if I've broken it somehow, but I've learned to just keep waiting and it usually comes up eventually.

Setting keeps on crashing
It is kind of fast "computer". But it is very annoying that the setting window keeps on crashing! I cannot even configure the WiFi!. Also it has type c interface which is different from other 96boards. I will try again if it still doesn't work. I will return it.

Just received this unit for an android project and the product was dead on arrival. The big issue is that there is not a ton of documentation yet for these units.

It's not that easy to flash over and doesn't have any clear path ...
The Lemaker as of 9/21/2017 does not have a gpu full version of Linux you can run off this machine. It's not that easy to flash over and doesn't have any clear path it's going. It comes with an old version of android and development of this product has been very slow and I don't see it picking up any time soon. It's overpriced for what you get and not enough development behind it. I would avoid thisMine is just sitting here on the Android OS and just not doing enough with it. I was hoping to just Unbuntu on this stand alone with a full gui I could use but that's not support and I don't see it happening any time soon.
