Good story. I wish that it would continue. Makes me want to revisit San Francisco.

Easy grammar, but engaging story. Perfect book for intermediate french learner.

Marc Levy, if I remember correctly, had all four of his novels on the French bestseller list recently. When I asked him last month which one I should read, he shrugged his shoulders as if they were all the same and replied: The first one? As it turns out, Et si c'etait vrai... has been translated into English (If Only It Were True) and DreamWorks has bought the movie rights. The movie, called Just Like Heaven, is currently filming with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo in the lead roles and is scheduled for release this fall.With Witherspoon and Ruffalo in the mix, you can guess that this is not War and Peace. Et si c'etait vrai... is a fantasy about Lauren, a young, attractive San Francisco doctor who has a car accident and is pronounced dead (a lesson that young, attractive doctors should definitely wear their seatbelts). She manages to come back to life, but only to be in a coma indefinitely. We flash forward a few months to her apartment, recently inhabited by Arthur, a young, attractive San Francisco architect who is taking a bath. He opens his bathroom closet to find Lauren snapping along to the music and learns that only he can see, hear, and touch her spirit while her body remains in the hospital. Antics ensue, there is a bit of banter back and forth between Lauren and Arthur, and finally a denouement develops that is enjoyable and satisfying enough.Levy sticks to what he knows in his first novel: he lived in San Francisco for almost a decade and he was an architect before becoming an author. The novel is flawed, in particular when it gets off track from the adventure of Lauren and Arthur to delve into Arthur's past and the psychological scars it has left. But it is light reading and a good chance for Americans to work their French and to get a glimpse of French pop culture. Yes, there is such a thing, and Marc Levy is in the heart of it.

Ca y est on ne me prendra plus pour un extra terrestre j ai enfin lu un Levy! Ben j avais tellement d attentes sur ce livre qui était le favori de pas mal de mes amis que j ai été déçue... Il est léger et agréable à lire mais j ai eu du mal à rentrer dans l histoire. Je pense que je m y suis passionnée plus à partir du milieu. Mais bon je ne regrette pas de l avoir lu et je suis prête à lire ses autres livres!

Et si c'était vrai...juste après avoir lu la dernière ligne de ce livre c'est exactement ce que l'on se dit.Et on y réfléchi longtemps après. J'ai aimé ce livre parce qu'il m'a amené à me poser des questions sur la vie et la mort et l'âme. L'histoire est captivante parce qu'elle est unique aussi. C'est une aventure hors du commun et qui peut-être possible.L'auteur a eu beaucoup d'imagination pour penser une histoire pareille et en plus il a été capable d'amener le lecteur à une profonde réflexion. J'ai passé un très bon moment à lire ce livre.

J’étais fasciné par ce récit formidable, à être en mésure d’acheter la suite. Il y a plusieurs tournures, parfois heureuses parfois tristes pour me rendre souvent abasourdi et essoufflé. J’étais constamment aux aguets pendant la lecture.Lauren et Arthur sont très droles à leur façon, et vraiment les personnages agréables qui sont de plus en plus ravissants à connaitre. Je trouvais la fin de l’histoire, dont le resultat est très difficile à prévoir, très satisfaisant et au même temps intriguant, qui m’a incité immédiatement à chercher la suite. Un livre particulièrement passant pour améliorer l‘usage et le savoir de la langue.

L'histoire est assez originale et le style agréable.Ceci dit personnellement, j'ai trouvé certains passages un peu trop eau-de-rose. Il m'a semblé que les descriptions idéalisées de certains personnages étaient inutilement romantiques et créaient plutôt l'effet contraire dans le contexte d'une histoire fantastique.Autrement, une lecture sympathique.

The story is original but from a literary point of view, Marc Levy's style is that of a 12 year old. The characters have no depth and the story is littered with inaccuracies and inadequacies (especially the policeman who decides not to take it further...). You'll enjoy reading this book on a train I guess but that's it really!

I bought this book as a first read in French and found it an excellent choice. The language is a good mix of colloquial and traditional and the story line kept me interested. Right to the end I was not sure how it would finish.

This is my favorite kind of story, where the mysterious and the extraordinary feature with facts and real feelings .. it had been a long time that I had been so engrossed in a book, in fact a series of books. I love it, thank you! Mahayana Isabelle Dugast

Weird story but very romantic and enjoyable to read.

I enjoyed this book a lot.Unusual and original idea.Bought my wife the english language version so she (hopefully) will enjoy it.

Diese Geschichte kann ich uneingeschränkt empfehlen, außer an verbissene Realisten.Warum gehört dieses Buch zu meinen Lieblingsbüchern?1) Mir sind die Personen, insbesondere Lauren und Arthur sehr ans Herz gewachsen. Sie haben echte Tiefe, sind vielschichtig und emotional, und handeln - trotz der leicht phantastischen Handlung - sehr nachvollziehbar und konsistent.2) Die Geschichte ist wirklich spannend erzählt, und bleibt bis zum Schluss "offen".3) Die emotionale Achterbahnfahrt von Lauren und Arthur berührt mich - vielleicht ist es die einfühlsame Erzählweise mit viel Innensicht der Figuren, oder die Zeit, die sich die Geschichte lässt, die Gefühle logisch zu entwickeln.Wenn mich etwas verwirrt hat, dann war das der Ort der Handlung. Ich habe das Buch auf Französisch gelesen, und war von dem setting in den USA immer wieder abgelenkt.

Libro sin grandes pretensiones y romanticón. Fácil de leer y entretenido. Buena opción para estudiantes de francés de nivel medio. En resumen, sin ser una gran obra es de lectura agradable

El autor va más lejos y desdobla la personalidad de la enferma en un espíritu activo y capaz de sentir y de llevar una vida propia mientras su cuerpo está inerte. Sin embargo, parece que ese espíritu solamente puede ser percibido por determinadas personas con una sensibilidad especial, lo que conduce a situaciones complicadas que nos hacen pasar un buen rato.

Absolut tolles Buch das ich bereits einmal vor 15 Jahren gelesen habe. Dieses Buch saugt einen sofort in die Welt des Geschehens ein.Absolut zu empfehlen ( habe es auch an Freindinnen weitergereicht)

I personaggi e l'intrigo fanno del libro una buona lettura.In quanto alla prosa, lo consiglierei ad un pubblico femminile più ricettivo alle tematiche romantiche.

ho comperato il libro dopo aver letto su Le Monde che l autore era il piu letto tra i francesi. la storiella si legge, piuttosto superficiale, ma nel nostro mondo terrorizzato dalla morte non puo che avere successo, filosofia da quattro soldi.
