Does anyone know what the benefits are of one ratio over the other?** A: I won't pretend to know all about Omega 3, but I do know that it is useful and "recommended/prescribed" for a number of reasons. I'll only address the reason I take it and continue to take this particular product. The varied reasons it may be recommended to you seems to lead to levels, dosages and/or type of Omega 3's. You could hear anything from specific mg of EPA or DHA or sometimes just "fish oil" or "omega 3" recommendations. Don't be surprised if your doctor and even some specialists don't seem to know what the latest research is. There is so much out there!I take it very specifically for relief of depression symptoms, although I took a different brand/type previously for just general health. I started taking the NOW Ultra Omega-3 about 18 months ago during an 8 week program of therapeutic lifestyle change (TLC) to treat depression. Increasing Omega-3, in particular, a 2:1 EPA/DHA ratio, at an effective level (1000mg EPA I believe) has been shown to have a beneficial impact on depression for many. This brand has much more EPA than others I've found and for a giant pill goes down easily (2 softgels versus many more with less EPA).That's my two cents. May be helpful to some. If interested, you can read on... It is a long story as to why this would help depression, but I have found this particular EPA/DHA ratio helps me substantially, even though I am less compliant to the other principles of TLC (like exercise). Dr Stephen Ilardi's approach has research showing effectiveness at treating depression.
