the book was amazing as far content! the physical book itself should not have been sold. it looks like a publishers reject!! the ink on tha pages were faded and varing colors?? and the words had a lot of places that a lot of the letters werent there? too difficult to read it otherwise i would have kept on my bookshelf forever!! returned it coz it was terrible trying to read it!!

I had this book when I was a teenager and it really hit home with me then. Now that I am older I have a deeper understanding on AIM and the Native American problems that are still ongoing. Much respect to all 1st nations and too the leaders who speak truth about the colonization of America

One of the best books I have read on Indain American History. Provides an invaluable insight from the Indain American history. Interesting how the two sides do not agree on history, makes you wonder and ask questions. As my mother was 1.2 Cherokee, I have become interested in the histroy of the Indain America. I should have started my research, family histroy much sooner. There is ome much history to read about on bothsides. A must read for all that may have an interest in the American History as most Text books lack enough information as well as correct information about this nation's history.

The author clearly did a lot of historical research in writing this book. I have long been aware of the disgraceful treatment of our native peoples. But this book brings things into sharp focus. Not an easy read but provides perspective on the situation.

Enlightening with humor I got bogged down in the chapter with treaties and politics

This book is full of sarcastic humor, and information about the Native American community's struggles over time in the U.S. I very much enjoyed reading this book, but if you have a hard time deciphering sarcasm in text, this may not be the easiest read.

Note that I purchased the first edition for a great price. Had to wait for the price to drop, but my copy is clean and, even though aged, still reads well.

It took a while (13 days) to get to me, but the book was in good condition.

AMAZING BOOK THAT EVERYONE SHOULD READ!! Arrived a little late- but in good secondhand condition

Le style de Vine Deloria est fluide et très accessible. Son humour est décapant, malgré le sérieux des sujets évoqués. Je me suis surprise à sourire plus d'une fois et parfois à rire en lisant ce livre. Plusieurs thèmes propres à la cause indienne y sont abordés, toujours avec un angle de vue auquel on ne s'attend pas vraiment, qui surprend par sa vision globale des problèmes rencontrés par les tribus indiennes. Trois chapitres m'ont particulièrement touchée : Le premier sur l'identité indienne qui donne un aperçu au lecteur de ce que représente le fait d'être indien aujourd'hui aux Etats-Unis, toutes les interprétations extérieures erronées dont les Indiens souffrent tant, tout ce qui est "attendu" d'eux et qu'ils ne sont pourtant pas, et bien sûr ce qu'ils souhaitent réellement "représenter" pour leur futur. J'ai également beaucoup apprécié le chapitre sur la vision qu'ont les Indiens de tous les chercheurs, anthropologues, ethnologues et historiens qui sont venus les étudier ces cinq derniers siècles... Il remet n'importe quel chercheur à sa place et permet (du moins peut-on l'espérer) d'éviter de grosses erreurs en cas de recherches sur le terrain. Le chapitre évoquant la lutte pour les droits civiques des Noirs explique parfaitement pourquoi les Indiens ne sont pas une "minorité ethnique" comme une autre aux Etats-Unis, ce passage est très instruit et fouillé, on y trouve également des informations sur le Black Power. Beaucoup de Français ignorent en quoi les tribus indiennes diffèrent des autres groupes ethniques des Etats-Unis : ce chapitre se révèle très utile pour bien en comprendre la raison.

If you want to understand the native Americans history, then purchase this book. I only gave it 4 stars, because it wanders towards the end.

Excellent texte. Vraiment.
