Hello and thank you for your inquiry.  The Operational Voltage for the HBO100W/2  (Osram Product Code #69217) Lamp is given on the Osram Spec Sheet as 20 Volts but that does not tell the complete story.  The HBO100W/2 is a Mercury Discharge Lamp and the power supply in the microscope must work in concert with the lamp in two important phases - Ignition and Operation.  To strike the lamp to first turn it on, the power supply must deliver what is referred to as Ignition Voltage to the lamp.  That ignition voltage would be momentarily much higher than the 20 Volts which is given as the Operational Voltage.   Unfortunately Osram does not give the Ignition Voltage on their spec sheet as that can vary depending on the conditions necessary to strike the lamp.  The ignition voltage can change over time.  As the lamp ages, the ignition voltage necessary  to strike the lamp can change over time and circumstance.  Less voltage can be needed if the lamp strikes right away or is partially warm, more voltage if the lamp is difficult to strike or cold.   The amount of voltage delivered to ignite the lamp is a function of the power supply of the microscope and should be given as a range but unfortunately we cannot provide that range value as Osram does not provide that range for ignition on their spec sheet.   The operational voltage is given on the spec sheet as 20 Volts.  We hope this answers your question.

We have an omax epi-fluorescence microscope (model m837flr). the manual says it uses a 100w hbo mercury arc lamp. is this lamp a suitable replacement?

Hello - the short answer is yes - that can be used as a suitable replacement but there are other choices tied in with brand and average rated life.  There are 2 major companies that make such 100 Watt Mercury Lamps - Osram and Ushio.   Osram offers two versions of the 100 Watt HBO lamp and either can be used in the instrument interchangeably.  The difference between the two Osram lamps is the average rated life hours - others specs are the same for each.  The two versions are HBO100W/2 and HBO103W/2.    The Osram HBO100W/2 lamp might be referred to as the "standard" lamp - it is rated as 200 Average Life Hours.  The Osram HBO103W/2 lamp might be referred to as the "extended life" or "long life" lamp - it is rated as 300 Average Life Hours.  The HBO103W/2 lamp rated for 300 hours is usually priced preportinately higher.  Ushio mirrors the two choices of the Osram choices.  There is a standard lamp version and an extended/long life version.  The Ushio USH102DH is the Ushio version of the standard lamp offering 200 hours.  The Ushio USH103D is the Ushio version of the standard lamp offering 300 hours.  Hopefully we are not confusing you but there are actually 4 choices of lamps - all rated to be 100 watt - that would be compatible in your scope.  You may use any of them - HBO100W/2 (Osram Standard Life);  HBO103W/2  (Osram Extended Life);  USH102DH  (Ushio Standard Life); and USH103D  (Ushio Extended Life).   If you are not familiar with either brand, either Osram or Ushio are excellent quality brands and perform equally in microscopes and any of the 4 lamps can be purchased with confidence.

Hello and thanks for your inquiry.  If you were to make a purchase under this Amazon Listing, 1 Lamp would be supplied.  We can see that there might be some confusion here.

The manufacturer of the bulb is Osram and the "2" that appears happens to be the last digit of the Osram Part Number.  The complete Lamp part number is HBO100W/L2     When this item was posted the item for sale on Amazon, when being set up and entered into the computer field, the complete part number was altered and a space was inserted after the slash separating the last digit "2" from the part number.  We agree that the way it appears - "2 Mercury..." -  could be misunderstood and is confusing.   This manufacturer's part number in this case just happens to end in a 2.  We hope that makes it clear for you - you would get 1 lamp.

It would be more clear if the part number appeared as HBO100W/L2 with no separation of where the 2 appears.
