The first time we used it, it was great! I was very happy with it. It was the perfect size for my 7 year old to use (with my supervision, of course). I didn't have to worry about him using a big, heavy iron and hurting himself. Our projects are fairly small, so this was a great size. It heated up and melted at a decent speed. The real iron gets too hot sometimes and I melt more than I'd like. This was easy for us to control. However - the next day, I went to use it, and noticed there was a piece inside that had broken off or come loose because I could hear it rattling around in there. And the iron no longer got hot enough to melt any beads. So it's useless now. I only gave it two stars because it worked great the first time. And had it kept working, I'd be very happy with it. We did NOT drop it or bang it or anything that I can understand would cause a piece to break off - especially on the inside. Not sure what happened. UPDATE: I unscrewed the cover to look inside - a screw had come loose from the inside - that was making the noise. I could not, for the life of me, get it screwed back in. It's like screw was too short and wouldn't catch the edge. I don't see how it would have affected the heat, as it was just to hold a piece down.
